So DS wants to go to Vegas...
My 6 y/o DS wants to go to Vegas on vacation. Says he wants to see all the lights (we were watching the Looney Tunes movie and he couldn't stop talking about it). Would it be appropriate to take him there? Obviously, we would not go into the casinos with him and there is actually a lot to do other than gamble - almost every hotel has some type of theme or show we could see, as well as a trip to the dam or the canyon. Or is the whole atmosphere just not right for a child? Thoughts?

I don't think that is somewhere appropriate for anyone under the age of 21.
There are PLENTY of other kid-friendly places in the US that you can hit before he turns 21

It's becoming more family friendly. New York Hotel is probably the best place to stay. I'd research hotels because we stayed in the Hard Rock & that's definitely not the place for kids.
I'm not a big casino person but personally I wouldn't take my kids to Vegas while they were young.

I personally wouldnt take DD there until she is much much much older. Ive never been myself but from what Ive heard, the atmosphere is just not child friendly at all. There are soo many other places to vacation with the kids that would be more appropriete IMO.

My DS is 5 and also wants to go to Vegas. My mom goes to Atlantic City frequently and he associates all things Casino and Elvis with Vegas and he just loves any time he hears Vegas mentioned in a song (Katy Perry). Anyway, I will probably take him the next time I go but I wont be taking him to all the bars and casino floors. There is plenty to do and it is a good time.

I don't see the big deal. I don't know if I would plan a trip there just because my kid wanted to go, but if that's someplace DH and I wanted to go, or someplace we visited frequently, I would certainly take my kid and wouldn't give it a second thought. But in fairness, this is also coming from someone that went to Vegas as a kid, who went to the racetrack, and bet on jailai.
