What's so great about Vegas?

I see everyoen going these vages trips and they're so excited. but tell em what is so great about vegas? if it's the gambling, why not go to AC or foxwoods? I'd like ot go to LV, but the only reason would be to see Penn & Teller. What else is there? Just curious!

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

I had no desire ever to go, and my girlfriends took me for my bachelorette and we just spent all day by the pool, and then partied all night long. Maybe it depends who you are with -- personally none of us are gamblers so it's not that. It's just the party atmosphere I guess. Although for party time, I prefer New Orleans.

It's pretty neat how Vegas is in the middle of the desert, yet you are surrounded by these extravegant buildings and intricate casinos, something going on everywhere you look --- it's neat just to see once in your life. I'd go back, but it isn't top of my list.

Well, for me...the hotels are simply an amazing sight!! I mean, they're really incredibly built, and impeccably designed. I happen to enjoy the gambling there because there's so much to do in-between losing your money, that it helps to pace it out a little bit.
Chat Icon

There's also a lot to do, clubs, restaurants, shopping ...etc.

The weather is also usually very seasonable so you can get a lot of walking done or even lay by the pool.

I dunno, I'm a total Vegas advocate...i can keep rambling on and on!

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

i don't really like vegas all that much. but i think if you have the chance it's worth it to see it at least once. as someone else said just looking the hotels is really cool. they're so huge! i think they seem even bigger b/c unlike nyc skyscrapers there's nothing else tall around them. i spent very little time there gambling. there's tons of other things to do- shows, looking at other hotels, eat!, shop etc. plus there's cool side trips from there- hoover dam, grand canyon, red rock canyon etc. i'm glad i've gone, and it will probably always be our jumping off point for our grand canyon hiking trips, but if you're not a partier or a gambler it's probably not worth more than a weekend.

There's a lot to do in a contained space...there's shows, restaurants, shops, beautiful pool areas, spas, casino, etc.

Also, except for the Borgata, the AC casinos CANNOT compare to vegas casions...even for a non-gambler like myself. The LV casinos are spectacular and just nice to walk around.

Besides, I need to get on a place to consider it a vacation.Chat Icon

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

I went to Vegas years ago and I liked it because of the sights, but I'm not a gambler so I guess it wasn't for me. I also don't like to see shows, with show girls and all that stuff. I only had to be there for a wedding...Chat Icon

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

I went a few years ago with some friends...we went for like 4 days and that was more than enough for me. I am not into gambling...it was a cool expereince to see it but will I ever go back?? Probably not...unless my FI wants to go someday but I don't think he will.

I loved the weather though....hot with no humidity and I came away with a great tanChat Icon

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

Friends of ours were renewing their wedding vows and went all out Elvis. The bride's mom made her a poodle skirt, and everyone was dressed like it was the 50's. It was a riot. Then afterwards we saw George Carlin. Had front row seats Chat Icon

Hubby and I saw Tournament of Kings which is like a mid evil renasance thing. I had such a blast.

We walked the strip and took tons of pictures, hung out by the pool, and just enjoyed being there. We watched the sun set over the strip which was cool.

I'll be going next August (so far away!) with some friends, and FH will probably join us after a few days. I'm curious to see it, but I'm not a big gambler/partier. Everyne thats been there says its like Disneyland- go once to see it, and thats it.

Although I do agree with whoever said AC is a little ghetto. Except to say that I think it's a lot ghetto Chat Icon

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

Well when I was in the 9th grade My best friend moved to vegas so I had been going for years before I turned 21 So its not about gambling for me. When I was 16 there was still so much for me to do besides gamble. Just looking at all the hotels and doing all the sights could take up a whole week! Its a great place to visit even once.

As for A.C. Thats just a strange (gross) place. I went to VEGAS first so when I went to A.C. I was like EWWWW This place is nasty! We still go we like to stay at harrahs or borgata cause its away from everything (but yet a short ride to the boardwalk) but When you drive to the boardwalk WOW that is Ghet-To!

Re: What's so great about Vegas?

Nothing.

i HATE vegas.

I went with my DH last year and i HATED IT!!!!!!!!!

No culture... just glossy everything...

To me, the restaurants were fancy versions of chain restaurants- I went to Emeril's restaurant and it didn't COME CLOSE to his restaurant in New Orleans.

Too many crowds, WT, ugh- just gross.

My favorite thing to do there was go hiking in the mountains OFF THE STRIP.

Chat Icon this is EXACTLY how I've always thought of Vegas too! I really want to go one of these days myself. My mom went with my sis and our cousin a few years ago, and saw the Cirque du Soleil show O at the Bellagio, saw a "burlesque" show (they swore it was very tastefully done!) and had the time of thier lives!!! I love Cirque du Solieil and I would love to see the shows there in Vegas, as well as seeing all the touristy sights and the aforementioned gambling/drinking! Chat Icon Vegas just has so much allure and history, I would love to go one of these days!
