Hi girls. DIVA question

Im back from my European vacation. I have 3 weeks left before my first half and Im freaking out. The most Ive run is a 7.5 miles and that wasnt easy. My training is so far behind. Has anyone ever just run it without being fully trained and prepared. What should I do?? I dont think I'll be ready in 3 weeks. Any advice?

Just do it, don't back out.
Do a few longer runs, 9 or 10 miles, over the next couple of weeks, then do shorter runs the week before.
You'll do fine! If you have to walk, just walk, as much as you need to. You will definitely finish the distance!!! Don't concern yourself with your time.

Here's what I'd do:

see if you can make it to 9 miles this weekend and 10 miles the following weekend. (Hal's beginner plan only gets you to 10 miles before the race).

Try to fit in a mid week run of 4 miles (maybe tomorrow or thurs)

Next week try a 4 mile run on tues and another on thurs

the week after dont push it too much. I'd run 2 miles on thursday. if you want to do two then maybe a 3 miler on monday or tuesday depending on when you run your long run that weekend.

I agree with trying to get up to 9 or 10 miles.


you can do a few other things as well to help endurance:

* do a semi long run on Wednesday (5-6 miles) and then do your long run on the weekend

* do your long run on the weekend based on time and not distance. Whether you walk or not - time on your feet is time on your feet.

* do a short/mid length pace run (4-5 miles at the speed you want to run the HM in) the day before your log run. Your legs will be tired on your long run and it helps to build endurance

* try a speed workout - miles repeats are tough, but they do help. run 1 mile at you HM pace and then walk/jog 1/4 mile. If you can get to 3 great - 4 even better!

of course, like PPs have said - don't do these the week of the race.

WALK! There is no need to actually run the entire distance without stopping. Listen to your body. A few moments of walking will help you recover and give you more energy to keep going!

Thank you all. AHHH im so nervous! I'll keep you all posted how I do this weekend. Im going to do 7 again tonight and then shorter runs Wed and Fri then the 9 miles on Saturday.. yikes!
