Cutting Carbs v. Counting Calories
In my OCD world it made sense to research the benefits of either counting carbs v. counting calories.
I did atkins in the past, but I think I did it wrong (too much cheese and nuts) so I'm trying ti again. I have my sisters wedding coming up and I want to lose some weight before I have to get fitted for the dress. My mom is doing atkins and lost 10 pounds so far.
My question is, if you cut carbs should you also count calories for max effectiveness? TIA

I find that I don't need to. It sort of evens itself out. As long as I eat what is on my diet, I don't really limit myself. I do try to fill myself up with salads and fruit, and that helps with feeling weighed down with meat, nuts and cheese.

You should count calories no matter what type of diet plan you are following. I would suggest measuring everything you eat for at least a week to get an idea of your intake then make changes. I find it helpful to use a program (I like fitday.com) to track calories and macronutrients. It is important to track all your macronutrients not just carbohydrates so you can adjust your food intake if necessary.

this has been my experience as well. if I stop losing, it's usually because I've started cheating or taking in a maintenance level of carbs, as opposed to a losing level for me.
