For sensory moms...sensory recipes!
I was googling sensory diets and found these great 'recipes.' Riley had so much fun with "Gak!" today. It really did the trick and totally focused her energy.

Going to try the Gak, glad it worked for her. Shane plays with shaving cream at the kitchen table alot, I hide his little trains in it and he reallly likes it.

Gak is soooo sticky and messy, she really loved it's consistency. I've noticed playdoh does nothing for her so this works great. Maybe I'll try the shaving cream too, though I bet she'll taste it.
What else do you guys do as far as tactile play? An OT mentioned Moon sand but I'm kinda nervous to give that to her now.

i love gak!
u can also do a bean bin, rice bin, putty, clay, play doh, water table, shaving cream (maybe if u are worried she'll eat it you can try jello, pudding, or whipped cream), and arts and crafts with glue, sand, cotton balls, feathers, finger paints etc..

I haven't tried moon sand but it looks like a clean-up disaster waiting to happen so I don't plan on trying it.
Fill a bowl or box or tupperware container with dried beans or rice and hide very small toys in it (if you don't have anything really small go to party city and buy the toys they sell for goody bag stuffers). Takes concentration but the feeling of the beans or rice calms them. I suppose you could use the sand for that too if you want, but the beans or rice is easier to clean.

I am in awe of this blog. It is my goal to recreate some of these sensory bins. (along with so many of the other activities in this blog).

These are so creative! DS's OT used to do one with the shredded paper, he loved it.

Special Ed. Teacher crashing here!
Thanks for the link, I am looking for some more sensory things to do with the kids! I teach k-5 art in the Bronx. My students all have ASD. :)

Re: For sensory moms...sensory recipes!
I gave my students a bin full of beans with two cups today and they LOVE it! Something about running your hands through the smooth beads is really calming! :)
