can we see the actual tests?
DS's pre-school (integrated program) recommended an additional service, which I really don't mind DS having. We got the test results back and the letter going to the SD to recommend the service and I was really shocked by one of the results.
The test was teacher answered (his teacher answered questions about him). Since it is so off base, I'm wondering if they embellished some of the answers? so they can get paid by the SD for the additional service.
Most were on target for him, but the one section that was 2 standard deviations away from the norm was just the polar opposite of DS.
Do we have a right to see the actual test?
We have to go back to CPSE, but I really don't want this test in his records.
Should we put up a fight at the CPSE? DS's daycare teacher thinks we should move him into a different preschool's integrated program.

Re: can we see the actual tests?
This happened to us. DD's former preschool filled out a form describing her behaviors. They wrote all this crazy stuff in. We had a meeting and they wouldn't come clean with us. I think they do embellish answers and such as a tactic to get those extra services approved. In our case, they were trying to get her out of their room asap because they weren't equipped to deal with an autistic child. I would ask to see the test. It angers me that, although they might be trying to help secure services in some way, it can be an upsetting scenario for a parent to see stuff like that about their child.

I believe you have the right to see all testing protocols. In my school, those documents are never destroyed/shredded.

This is the parents guide to special education rights. Check in there. It probably has what you are looking for NY State Special Education
Good luck!

Re: can we see the actual tests?
Due to test security, I do not believe you will be able to get copies of the actual test protocol (if it was a standardized test). You will receive the scores and report however. I would speak with whoever administered the test and ask them to explain the results. Depending on the test, there may be a parent version so you can provide your opinion and input.

Re: can we see the actual tests?
They don't have to show u the test protocol (actual form/piece of paper they used while testing your child, but they can definitely show you the test in general.

Re: can we see the actual tests?
Also, since it was a teacher questionere, just ask the teacher who completed it about her answers directly. At the CPSE meeting you will have he opportunity to inform the committee about your child's skills and behaviors at home. Don't worry about one very low subtest s score being on his "record" that info doesn't travel very far.
