Take on "baby doll" style dresses? (updated w/ pic of my actual dress)

I have a wedding to go to next weekend and I really needed a new dress cause I STILL have yet to lose these stubborn pounds I have gained over the last year or two.. yes I have been lazy, but I have also been stressed so it's been very difficult.

Anyway-- I have a couple of style dresses that are tight around the waist, then they just flow down-- and whatever weight I am-- they are flattering. I was looking for something in this style because if I was going to spend the money, after I lose a few pounds-- the dress will still fit/look good.

Anyway, so I bought a really cute BCBG dress yesterday to wear to this wedding-- it looks great from the front and back-- but, the side is a little weird just cause of the baby doll style-- I know it's a hot look and everything, but... I just cannot help but wonder if people will think I am prego or something!!

Thoughts?

Ok-- I just took pics of my dress since after numerous web searches I couldn;t find anything!

Here is the front, a close up of the detail and the back... the dress is navy with nude underlay in the lighter areas you see on the sides..

The back it's hard to see-- but there is no tie-- just a little bit of a gather in the middle-- in back of the chest area..

I like it, but I would not wear it. On me, it would look like i was preggers.

Especially because of the tie in the back.

Unless the person wearing it is super skinny I usually question a pregnancy. The tied back looks maternity. It's very cute though Chat Icon

From the front it doesn't look like a maternity dress. The back, maybe. It's a cute dress though!

Re: Take on "baby doll" style dresses?

thanks--- my dress actually does not have a tie in the back-- so maybe that would alleviate some of that.. I am just going to wear it and try not to worry about it!

I think its a tough look for anyone with a) a bigger chest or b) not so toned armed and legs. If you have either a or b it can IMO look a little more on the preggers side and less on the fashionable (and I have both a and b!)

I actually have a big chest-- 34 D and I loathe my arms... I mean, the dress looks great from the front and back- it's just the side that I am a little self-conscious about..

The dress is different than the one I posted-- it's very pretty and does not have a tie in the back.. I do like it-- but just don't want people to think I am prego-- I guess I will just chain smoke and drink heavily at the wedding!

I love the dress!!! I think if it doesn't fall to loose after the empire seam, you won't look preggo. I wanted to ask you where did you find the dress...I really like it!

well, as I said before, it's really only from the side that I am worried about.

I got the dress at a boutique in NJ... it's a BCBG dress, and I have been looking for it all over the internet to post a good pic, and can't find it.

I think it will look nice. Even though you said you have gained some weight, I am sure you are still a skinny minny.

And as far as the preggo thing goes, I think its because you are thinking about TTC. When I was TTC I was super paranoid about empire waist shirts that I wore even though I've worn them a millions times b4 TTC.
