Dog Urine on Area Rug

my adopted doggie Maddie is housebroken and had 2 accidents a few days ago - one was on my $$ living room area rug so i was pretty upset...i took her to the vet right away because she never has accidents in the house and i saw some blood in her urine and it turns out poor Maddie has a UTI so it wasn't really her fault, she just couldn't hold it in....

i have a bissel spot bot and i went over the spot a few times with it but i can't get out the urine smell from the area rug, i used the spot bot with the oxy clean solution and then i also tred plain water and a little resolve carpet spray directly on the rug...the rug is starting to look worn in the spot so i'm afraid to keep cleaning it....i can only smell it if i put my nose to the rug but still, it smells....

is there anything i can put on the rug to try and neutralize the odor? like a powder? or a spray? if i keep cleaning it i'm afraid the smell will still be there and the rug will just keep getting worn looking....it's a wool rug...

thanks!

My dog had a couple of accidents also on our new area rug. I used this arm and hammer pet cleaner spray. It has oxyclean in it. I sprayed the spot and rub the spot and let it air dry and smell went away.

I second it, Casey had a UTI and had an accident on our rug and we used it, got the smell and stain out.

Re: Dog Urine on Area Rug

thank you both, i'll investigate if natures miracle is safe for the rug, i know with wools you have to be careful something with the dyes changing color....i read somewhere while searching that you shouldn't even wet a wool rug - oh well!

i've been saturating the area with baking soda everyday since it happened and letting it sit and then vaccuming it up and its smells a little less each time...you can't smell it unless you literally put your nose on the carpet but i really want zero odor...its so gross!

Nik, I've used Nature's Miracle on my PB rug too. Just don't saturate it. Do it little at a time.

Hope Maddie feels better soon!

Re: Dog Urine on Area Rug

This stuff is awesome. Used it when my cat peed on my sofaChat Icon and it got the smell out. Cat pee is MUCH harder to eliminate than dog pee...unfortunately I know.

ETA: Its woolite pet stain remover with Oxy. You can find it at Walmart, HD or certain grocery stores.
