Making relief area for dog outside
We are making a relief area for the dog. My SIL uses the side of her house. I dont want to offend our neighbor so we moved our fence up 6 feet to be even with our house and we are making this his area. I am sure he will say something to us but there is no other place we can have him go! instead of being near his patio area it is now behind his shed.
I want to reduce the smell as much as possible. The sec he poops it gets picked up. I would hose it down but the area is grass. Do you think would be a good idea to get those big paver squares from Home depot and put them down in the area then I can hose the pee and once a week scrub it with a broom?
Any other suggestions on reducing the smell?
TIA

You really think he will realize it?
Just clean it up as much as you can. I don't think you need to worry so much!

yes he will. HE is nice but sooo nosy. WHen we 1st moved in he was like u dont have a dog do u? we said no just a cat that is strictly indoors. He was like o well I hate animals I was like ummm ok. He is nice but like annoying too. I have this tree he wants to cut down b/c it blocks the sun from his pool. He was like I will pay for it to come down...It is a dog wood tree and i truly love it so i said no thanks...now allll he does for the past yr is joke about. Like when am i coming over to take that down. or like hey nice tree. He is a nice nosy too. LIke it is good b/c he knows everything that is going on....like a good lookout. He is away right now when we got the dog but I am more than sure he will say something. So I am trying to make it as not invasive as possible. I just wanna be a good neighbor. We do like him he is always inviting us over to come in the pool and stuff (Havent gone yet)
Ugh whatever lol I just want to make t seem like I am doing everything in my power to have it not smell. Thanks for the hug!

Sounds like my next door neighbor. We just ignore him now. He's got an opinion about everything. My dog poops closest to his house too!
Good luck with your pup! He's precious!

Honestly, if you're good with cleaning up the poo, there really shouldn't be any smell.
If this guy has a problem with where YOUR dog goes on YOUR property, he's gonna have to deal. It's not like you don't have any intention of cleaning up after the dog.
He sounds like a real gem.
Good luck.

ITA, he has NO right to tell you what can and cannot do with your property. There are going to be days where you can't get out to pick up the poop, So do NOT go out of your way to appease him. Obviously he is a bitter old man with nothing better to do.
and I can't believe he asked you to cut down a tree on your property b/c it blocked his pool! Keep that tree!!!

It shouldn't smell at all if you clean it up right away. Katie has the whole yard to herself but we clean it daily and use a Doogie Dooley to dispose of her waste. Doogie Dooley

Re: Making relief area for dog outside
If it's a possibility, here's a suggestion.... my parents had a small slab poured just for the dog. I think it was maybe 4x4 or 5x5. It had a small fence around it with a gate. She knew to walk in, do her business and come right back to the door. This way they had no cracks to deal with.

My dog goes in the backyard and there is no smell from #2 as we pick it up on daily basis, but sometimes in the summer time when its humid outside you can smell #1...so its important to powerwash often.

I dont want to offend our neighbor so we moved our fence up 6 feet to be even with our house and we are making this his area.
Wait so you just gave up 6 feet of your property and essentially gave it to your neighbor? Did he ask you to do this? I don't understand. If you pick up the poop right away there is no smell for anyone to notice/complain about.
I would not have moved my fence.
I think when she said "we are making this his area" she meant the dog's, not the neighbor's.

we were moving the fence so we dont see the dog pooping while we are in the backyard and he is away from the neighbors pool. It is a small area on the opposite side of the house that isnt being used. ut the fence was being moved so I can have a private area for the pup to go in

Re: Making relief area for dog outside
I think you are doing more than enough to accomodate your neighbor. As long as you clean up after the dog you will be fine.
As far as putting down cement or pavers, make sure the dog will pee on them first. Some dogs (mine) refuse to pee/poo on any kind of hard surface. So if you know the dog is going on the grass, you might be better off keeping it that way.

gotcha thanks!
Thanks everyone! I am still nsure what we are going to do...I am just so happy we have a pup and the neighbor can go scratch if he says anything

My dogs always just went out in the yard - pick up the poop and the peepee gets absorbed in the lawn

Re: Making relief area for dog outside
First of all...it's YOUR house! Your property to do what YOU'D like.
Secondly, it's one dog. It's not like you are hording dogs and the stench will permiate to his house.
Thirdly, even picking it up every few days is fine. You don't have to cater to him.
And lastly, what about making the area on the OTHER side of your house?
Again, don't cater to this man.

The other side of our house is a patio and eating area.

We also made an area for Cyrus. We put the small gravel down so the urnine dissapears. We also have a hose hooked up there to do a rinse (whenever we think about it). Its a little bit of a pain to clean the poop off the gravel but its better then killing the grass.
