Puppy for adoption
Is anyone interested in adopting a dog? He's less than a year old and all his shots are up to date. We are asking for nothing more than a loving home for him. We have a one year old baby and we are expecting another little boy in April. We just don't have the time and I would hate to take him to a shelter.

i wasnt going to respond. I really wasnt. But then i saw the picture of your doggie and I felt I had to speak for him. Every night on this board, I post a link to the cats that will be killed in the morning. Some cats wind up being picked up by animal control but most of the cats are there due to owner surrender. The reasons that owners give for bringing in their perfectly healthy pets range from allergies to "no time." Once these pets are surrendered to the shelter they only have a very short window of opportunity to hopefully get adopted. The vast majority will however, catch an upper respitory infection and unless a rescue deems them worthy of saving, will be put to sleep. Please take a moment to look at your dog and ask yourself if he deserves to die because even though less than a year ago you thought a puppy was a good idea, you have now deemed him not worth the effort. My family brought me home
cradled in their arms.
They cuddled me and smiled at me,
and said I was full of charm.
They played with me and laughed with me,
they showered me with toys.
I sure do love my family
especially the girls and boys.
The children loved to feed me,
they gave me special treats.
They even let me sleep with them
all snuggled in the sheets.
I used to go for walks,
often several times a day.
They even fought to hold my leash,
I'm very proud to say.
These are things I'll never forget
a cherished memory.
I now live in a shelter
without my family.
They used to laugh and praise me
when I played with that old shoe.
But I didn't know the difference
between the old ones and the new.
The kids and I would grab a rag
for hours we would tug.
So I thought I did the right thing
when I chewed the bathroom rug.
They said that I was out of control,
and would have to live outside.
This I did not understand
although I tried and tried.
The walks stopped, one by one;
they said they hadn't time.
I wish that I could change things,
I wish I knew my crime.
My life became so lonely,
in the back yard on a chain.
I barked and barked all day long
to keep from going insane.
So they brought me to the shelter
but were embarrassed to say why.
They said I caused an allergy,
and then, kissed me goodbye.
If I'd only had some classes,
as a little pup
I wouldn't have been so hard to handle
when I was all grown up.
"You only have one day left,"
I heard the worker say.
Does this mean a second chance?
Do I go home today?

I didn't deem him "not worth the effort", if I did that he would be in a shelter right now. I'm looking for a loving home for him not tying him to a street bench.

Can you tell us a little be more about your pup like is he good with other pets and I'm assuming he's good with children since you already have a little one. Was he an outdoor dog or indoor, does he walk well on leash, house trained?

I really hope you can find a way to keep your dog but if not, I hope you are able to find him a good home.
My friend runs a rescue group and the amount of dogs that are given up by the owners because they are 'moving' or don't have time is astounding. I'll never understand it and believe me I get it. I have a toddler, a baby on the way, and a 70 lb dog and there are days I feel like I'm going to lose my mind  , but my dog is a part of my family no matter what. Good luck to you. I hope for his sake, you can find him a good home.

If you would hate to take him to a shelter, then don't. You CAN control that, so don't let it happen. If you must rehome him, then do that, but considering what Domino posted, I would hope and pray that you would never do that to your dog, your family member.
Please stick it out and keep him AS LONG as it takes. You chose him, you committed to him. Follow that through until you find a GOOD, safe, suitable home if that is what you feel you MUST do.

There was NO better way to put it. Beautiful and best response I have ever read on a rehoming thread.

Why post? Sometimes when people are overwhelmed they cannot think clearly and their pets are the ones who suffer the consequences. So a few people just wanted to remind you even if the going gets tough, please don't take the easy way out. You mentioned shelter, people responded. You said "I would hate to take him a shelter". To me that implies, I really don't want to but I will if get desperate. I think others read it that way also. So that's why people responded.

Well maybe you should have said just that .. I WONT take him to a shelter.. You cant expect people to know what you "meant" when what you posted says .. You would but would hate it.
Now that you have cleared up the fact that you "wont" take him to a shelter that is a relief. Thank God.. this really breaks my heart.. .. If you really wont be able to spend any time with him and he will be neglected than I do agree he needs a new home.. I hope you find it for him and its forever.. Good luck

Please don't take it as criticism, we don't know you in real life and don't know your intentions. Everyone here is well meaning and just trying to help and perhaps offer some advice.
We don't know your situation so can only take what is presented. As you can see all the people who post on the pets board are pretty passionate about pets, and animals in general.
If there is a way you can see to keep your dog, I hope you will, at least keep it on the burner.

I have to say to speak for my own feelings, I hope she does rehome her dog. I have learned on this board to not even bother trying to convince people who clearly already have their minds made up. She clearly does not want him and he deserves better. Just all we ask is to find him a good, safe loving forever home, and not put him a shelter.

I have changed my posts as well goobster.. I dont try to convince people either anymore.. the dog should be where he is going to be loved and given attention .. I just hope he never makes it to a shelter if she cant find anyone. What will happen if time goes on and there is no one? Thats a scary thought. I really hope she finds someone soon.. I wish I could do it but I know I cant.

Can you give a bit more information on your dog? What is his background? Did you get him from a breeder, if so where? Does he have any behavior issues? Is he house broken? Has he had any training? Is he crate trained??
Also in response to your reaction to the pp...they are not trying to attack you- it just seems like every month or so someone posts they need to rehome their pet...it is sad...many of us are involved in volunteer work for rescue organizations or shelters and it hit close to home.

I will give this advice - if you are serious about finding a good home and about not going to a shelter (thank goodness), try contacting local rescues and asking them to do a 'courtesy posting' for you on their site or petfinder list - this way you get the traffic they get while still keeping your dog at home until the right new situation is found.
And while I do echo the sentiment of not taking this as criticism, please also realize that you are posting on a board for pet owners/animal lovers, many of whom (myself included) have adopted and love shelter pets who were given up by their owners. While I commend you for not tying him to a bench or dropping him at a shelter, you are still giving up on your pet. Pets are a lifelong (for their lifetime) commitment. I hope you find the right situation for your pup. And please, PLEASE, do not make this a 'free to a good home' situation...

I will agree too, so glad the poster above mentioned about not giving the dog away FREE, esp on a place like Craigslist. I usually say that, don't know HOW I forgot this time!!!!
