My Cat Has Fleas!!
I have noticed these scab like bites all around my Cat's neck. She has been itching like crazy! I first thought it was my other cat wrestling with her..But I saw a flea crawling on her.
What can I do? Vets can be so expensive!!! My cat is very scitzie! And hates any kind of water. If I can get her to relax I can be able to do something!!!
Any tips? Advice???

Re: My Cat Has Fleas!!
Argh. This just happened to us as well.
We brought our cat to the vet though, because we didn't see anything on her - she was just scratching like a nut. It took the vet awhile to find anything on her, and sure enough - fleas.
We used Revoltion on her and our other two cats - the vet recommended doing two cycles of it just to be sure. Revolution can only be bought through a vet. Frontline is a similar product that's OTC, but Revolution is supposed to be better for the health of your pet.
We also bought a flea spray for the house from the vet. I don't remember the name off-hand though. I have it at home, if you send me an FM I'll remember to check later for you!
Basically what you want to do is apply the Revolution to your kitty (and any others in the house). Vacuum the heck out of EVERYTHING - couch, bed, carpet, corners, everything! Wash and thoroughly dry cat beds/blankets/any plush toys the cat plays with. Then spray the house spray everywhere.
Sorry you're going through this. We spent last weekend dealing with the same thing. The vet suspects that she caught it from sitting in the window in our basement - given that it's been warm on and off this past month or so, we have had those windows open...stray cats walk through our driveway by the windows...that's most likely how it happened! Try to also think of the source of the fleas so you can take precaution (for us, it's just keeping those windows closed...does your cat sit near a screen door or something like that?)
While it totally stunk to deal with it, now our house is SUPER FREAKIN CLEAN, so that's a bright side I guess!

Re: My Cat Has Fleas!!
You need to treat this asap and be careful as there are many unsafe prodcuts for your pet. Flea dips can harm pets esp if they are too young, etc. and they don't get to the root of the problem.
I would honestly suggest going to the vet and then starting a product that vet's give to kill and control fleas. Frontline or other.
ASAP too b/c the lsooner you get this under control, the better.

Re: My Cat Has Fleas!!
We had this issue- with INDOOR cats! Go figure!
The only thing that worked was Frontline.
We treated both cats- you have to do it once a month.
Took 3 months to kill them all off- and we never had an issue since.

This is what we did. We put it on every month.
Keeps the fleas away.

Re: My Cat Has Fleas!!
My sister also found fleas on the little kitten that she just adopted on Friday and the cat is only about 5 weeks old so she is too young to flea baths and stuff like that.
She called the vet (she's been making a lot of calls to them this week ) and they recommended washing her with dawn dish soap which is gentle and then next week she will be able to apply the Revolution to her. She also has an appointment on Saturday.
I know when we were little we had several cats and they would get fleas because 2 of them that were older went outside. We would have to give them several baths over the course of a few weeks to really get the fleas to stop showing up, but this was before the days of frontline/revolution---so...thankfully products like that are available now!
IF you don't want to take the cat to the vet, maybe at least call!

Re: My Cat Has Fleas!!
Thanks!!!! I gave her some Flea Medicine..and I think she is better. She seemed very happy and was purring up a storm this morning..for the past 24 hrs she has been hiding under the couch..we have another cat and he likes to wrestle with her and I think she doesn't want to be bothered..so she may be hiding from him. I gave her some food and water and she took it no problem. The flea bites look like they are better..I'm keeping a close watch on it..if they do not improve in a day or two she's going to the vet!!! Good Luck trying to get her in a carrier!!!...UGH!!!!
