Dog Walking Club?
Would anyone want to start a "dog walking club?"
Meaning...just a thread to come to to talk about our walks with our dogs. Maybe we can set walking goals...such as....My Dog and I will walk together 4 days this week....and come to the thread to check in and hold ourselves accountable?
I know that for me, walking with my Charlie is such a great thing, for both of us. We both get some fresh air and exercise and she makes me want to do it, because it makes her so darn happy!
I could even throw in little challenges here and there!
Let me know if anyone is interested! Melissa

I would say let's get together and walk. There are some dog friendly parks where you can walk the trails and most are off major parkways.

Re: Dog Walking Club?
I was thinking more along the lines of us each walking our dogs on our own --- around our own neighborhoods -- and just using this thread as a place to check in with eachother. Just like there are workout logs on the diet/fitness board, this could be a place to talk about the walks that we take with our dogs.
Okay, can you tell I love walking with my dog?
Anyway, I was part of something similar on Weight Watchers but now I am pregnant and so I am not as active with Weight Watchers. So I was thinking that we could use it to set walking goals or even challenges.
This is the time of year when it's so easy to just let the dogs out of the back door to do their business, and we don't take them on as many walks. But Charlie and I are still enjoying our walks, most days of the week. I was looking for some like-minded individuals!

Re: Dog Walking Club?
Sounds like a nice idea
Not every walk with our dogs is eventful but I'll update from time to time.

Did you know there are dog walking groups on Meetup.com? Also, I've gotten together with LIF members in the past for playdates too. That's another nice thing to do once in a while.

Re: Dog Walking Club?
Not every walk of ours is eventful either --- but...certain walks are certainly something I'd love to share ... and most non-dog lovers would probably just think I was being a crazy dog woman!
Like the other night we took a cold walk in the dark...it was 7:30 at night. We normally wlak in the afternoon, and it was freezing out.
But it was so much fun! We walked around the neighborhood and checked out all of the Christmas Decorations, and I really loved it.
And I felt grateful that I have a dog who is so eager to go out into the cold and walk with me even when she is freezing her little 16 pound butt off...so that I can experience things like that.
I'm a sap when it comes to my dog.

Re: Dog Walking Club?
I know what you mean. I know so many more of my neighbors and more about my neighborhood, because of our dogs. There's something about walking in the dark, when it's quiet and the stars are out. It's a nice solitary experience with you and your dog.
We have 2 so walks are a little bit of work. One walks behind and the other walks ahead, just their personalities, so we got retractable leashes. For the one that goes ahead (Ginger, my yellow girl), she responds to the walking commands that we taught her. She knows "with me" if she's going straight at a corner and I want her to turn, wait for when we get to a blind corner with traffic, come for when a car is coming and I want her back with me.
I'm actually teaching her left and right as well.
Last week I walked them around the block and then dropped Brinkley at home (he's low energy and can't handle too much exercise) and took Ginger out for a jog. She LOVED it. Stayed right next to me, naturally kept my pace, smiling from ear to ear.

Re: Dog Walking Club?
Charlie isn't so good with the commands for walking. Just about the only thing she responds to is "Come On" when she is stopping to sniff things for too long. I do like to try and make it a bit of a walk for myself also so I don't let her stop all that much. When my DH takes her for walks that's probably all they do! It takes them about 40 minutes to make it around the block which is only a half mile!
So...questions to anyone responding to the thread...
How often do you walk your dog(s)?
How long do you typically walk for?
Do you walk for bathroom purposes or just for enjoyment?
And...
Do you walk year round or only during the warmer months?
