Nintendo Wii or Nintendo DS for a 7 year-old boy

I am finally giving in and buying a video game player for my son for xmas. For those that already have them which system do you think is better?

I like the portability of the DS but I am not sure that I want him taking that everywhere with him. Also he has 4 year old twin brothers who are probably going to be torturing him to play it as well so at least with the Wii they can play against him.

Just wondering what others think.

DS is 7.5. He prefers the Wii over his Ds. Actually, come to think of it, now that there is an iPad in the house, I couldn't even tell you where his Ds is!

DS is 8. He prefers his 3DS over the Wii. Several of his friends have DS's. They never seem to talk about Wii, only DS.

MY DS (8) has both and I am actually getting him a DSiXL for Christmas because all his friends have them and he likes the bigger one better. They all seem to like the bigger one over the 3D one. So right now he plays the Wii more, but I love having the portable so he has something to do in the car or when we have to wait places.

Honestly I don't think you can wrong with either one

It depends on what you want it for.

the wii is so much fun for us too, but it something played on a rainy or snowy weekend and gets a lot of playtime in the winter.

the ds is good for the car, waiting anywhere and traveling anywhere. my 7 yr old son likes the wii better, but he has the ds lite .


I think we are getting him an ipod touch

My almsot 7 yr old son definitely prefers his dsi.

They have totally different uses. He takes his dsi on vacations, long car rides, dr office waits but isn't allowed to take it everywhere and he knows it. He plays it at home here and there. Wii is more when it is a rainy/cold day or family time. We all play together (including my 4 yr old and we even hand my 9 mo old a remote and she pretends to play) but doesn't gets used all too much.

And yes as soon as my son got his dsi - my 4 yr old got one for his next birthday. They both love it.

DS has the Wii..... We haven't gotten him a Nintendo DS yet because we feel he spends enough time on the Wii at home. We are trying to keep a limit on the video game thing.
We like the Wii because all 4 of us can play at the same time

We will probably get the DS3D for him for his birthday

I have an almost 6 year old DD. she definitely prefers the DS over Wii. Both are great though!

Go with the DS. I bought one for my son when he turned 5 and is now 7 and plays with it all the time. I have a Wii and well and my daughters (and myself) plays with that. I can't get my son to play with the Wii for anything but he does play with the playstation 3.

DS is 7 and has both the Wii and DSiXL. He mostly plays the DS, it's great for long car rides too. I would recommend the DS!
