THE $79 Version has special offers and advertisements throughout. so i would not go with that one.

then there is the $99 Kindle Touch that has built in wi-fi to easily download e-books. its a little different from the model i bought Dh a few months ago in that there is no keyboard at the bottom. i think its all touch screen now.

the $149 touch version has 3g built in and it says no monthly connection fees. so thats cool b/c he can probably use it for surfing the internet as well.

then there is the kindle with the keyboards for $139, one has 3g and one doesnt, but they are the same price.

and then there is the kindle fire which is supposed to be like a tablet/ ipad.

I think the touch screens are cool. all depends on what other gadgets your DH has and if he is just looking to read books, or use it like an ipad/internet tool.

I looked at Amazon's comparison and I couldn't tell what the fire can do that the 3G wireless ones couldn't. We are low tech people in the sense that we have never had a tablet or e-reader before so I'm not familiar with 3G at all. I may be the last person left on earth with a basic free with my plan cell phone, lol, hence no data plan.

The Fire is a full color, back-lit tablet. The other ones are e-ink e-readers, in grayscale.
