IVF Question

I know very little about IVF so far. All I know is that an egg is fertilized outside of the womb and then implanted in the uterus. During this procedure, is more than 1 egg usually fertilized and then implanted to increase the risk of the IVF "working?"

Re: IVF Question

You take fertility meds so you can produce multiple eggs...everyone responds differently. Some people make 3, some people make 20...it depends on so many things.

They usually try to fertilize all the eggs, but not all will fertilize. Again, it all depends on many variables.

Then, depending on your age, diagnosis, and clinic, you and your RE will decide how many eggs to transfer back (not implant, that is what you HOPE they do). I usually put back four.

Then, if you have any remaining embryos, you hope they will make it to cryopreservation so you will have some frozen in case it doesn't work, or you want to try for another child..

Hey, thanks! How did you do on the fertility meds? Lots of side affects?
