Pedometer app?
So I downloaded a free pedometer app for my phone today because I was curious about my time/distance when I take my dog jogging. I probably shouldn't have done that because now I just feel bad: 19:24 min to go 1.07 mile! Is it just me, or is that totally pathetic????
Does anyone else use apps like this? Are the distances accurate?
Can I blame my dog for slowing me down?

Re: Pedometer app?
I am not a fan of pedometer apps. I find they either over or underestimate distances. I think you should consider investing in an inexpensive pedometer.

Re: Pedometer app?
I read your post yesterday and kept an eye on mine to see how long it took me to reach a mile. About 14 and a half minutes. That's walking some and jogging some.
Don't be discouraged. Just look at it as a baseline, and go from there. When you're in charge of your fitness, you must be the one to push yourself every time you go out. Even if it's just for 1 more minute, you're doing more and more.
I use the Jog Tracker app on my droid. It's pretty good, and free. I really only pay attention to the total distance and time. When you're using the GPS, the speed really isn't accurate.

Re: Pedometer app?
By the way, I tried jogging with my dog too and it's a nice thing for her, but I find it's a little bit of a hassle for me. She's good about heeling and not stopping but sometimes she falls behind or tries to walk in front of me, and keeping my hand on the leash is annoying.
I usually walk the dogs first, make that my warmup time, return them home, and then I do the actual jogging alone. It's become a really enjoyable thing to do for myself, and who couldn't use something just for them?

I like that idea, maybe I'll try it!

Re: Pedometer app?
it's possible that you were doing that pace with the dogs. a stroll is definitely ~20 min/mile...power walking ~13-15 min/mile
check out endomondo...it uses the gps on your phone and you can look at the map when you are finished.
