Dining Out - Weight Watchers

Upcoming travel for work means I will be eating outside my home for breakfast, lunch, dinner 3 meals a day.

Should I just forget about the week entirely?

I am planning on packing food for the plane - some veggies to snack on and a PB&J sandwich.

All the restaurants we are scheduled to go to for dinner will be the hardest part. How do you account for things if you modify them - i.e. ask for dressing on the side, no croutons, etc. All the salads I've seen as is are like 25 points!

Help - any tips?

I wouldn't forget about the week. Look for options that have power foods- grilled chicken, veggies, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, etc.
Instead of a full meal get an appetizer.
SPeak out and make sure they know what you want!!
If possible, whereever you are try to get in activity points (go for a walk or if you are staying in a hotel use the fitness center).

It's hard when you're away from home but do the best you can.

I would really go nuts with salads and ask for all the dressing /fix ins on the side. I would also stick to grilled things stay away from fried..

So do you all think I should try to count points - or kind of give up on that aspect and do the absolute best I can at restaurants?

It's so hard to know how many points things are - especially in a restaurant when you don't know the ingredients, oil, butter, etc. One place I found nutrition info on the site but it's hard to know what remains after I make the obvious alterations (not eat cheese, bun, mayo, croutons, dressing on side, etc.)

I'm less worried about breakfast/lunch because there is a cafeteria with lots of healthy whole fruits, salads, soups, sandwiches (make your own), etc.

Do not give up on the week. Try your best to track points; estimate and do your best without driving yourself nuts. WW is about making lasting lifestyle changes. You may want to go for meals with lean meats like fish (broiled or grilled), chicken (grilled) or lean beef... restaurant salads are loaded with calories and can often have more calories then a regular meal. Try to incorporate some exercise to earn some activity points.

Does weight watchers have a dining out guide? And is it offered on-line? That would be soooo helpful

i went back to my first meeting in a long time on sunday and this is exactly what the leader talked about. please don't give up for the week. some of the things she suggested:

- bring stuff with you (low point snacks, etc.)
- See about a hotel room that has a microwave. That opens the door to more ww-friendly options.
- do what others have said - go out, and get grilled instead of fried, lean protein, fish, etc.

There is a dining out guide available in the centers.

Also, if you have access to e-tools you can look up the points on there.

OR you can go to the restaurant's website and use the nutritional info the to find out the info.
