In your experience, does getting a kitten fixed calm him down?

I have a 6 month old male kitten who was a gift for DD's second birthday, more because he was in need of a home than anything else.

He. Is. A. Lunatic.Chat Icon

He is obsessed with water. Plays in the toilet if we forget to close it. Plays in the bath tub after the shower is used, knocking down all the soap bottles and such. Will stand on my head in the middle of the night to get at my glass of water.

He claws my rugs, couches and most recently, my walls. He drives my older cat nuts, chasing her around the house and jumping all over her.

I bought a fairly expensive advent calendar from PBKids for DD, A huge Christmas tree to hang on the wall. He would run like hell from the other side of the house and jump as high as he could and stick to the tree. He pretty must destroyed it. He does the same with our window screens. He jumps/freefalls through the stair railing down to the landing.

Frankly- he's driving me nuts. He's scheduled to be fixed next Thursday. I inquired about de-clawing, because i'd love to do it, but I don't have the heart to put him through the pain for my own benefit.

Will just fixing him be enough to calm him down?Chat Icon

I don't know because all the kittens I've had I received them fixed. They were still crazy Chat Icon. The only thing that calmed them down was time. Somewhere around the 1- 1 1/2 year mark they stopped climbing up my screens...

Sounds like my cat, unfortunately for us he's still a crazy cat. He has calm down a little since he turned one.

Do you have a scratching post or cat condo for him to scratch on. Our cat likes to scratch our rugs too but he usually will only do it when hes stretching. We have multiple scratching items for him. He also rough houses with out pit so i think that calms him down a bit too.

Good luck and please dont declaw him its like someone snipping off your fingers :(

This is what I had heard awhile ago which is why I wasn't into the idea, but he's been ruining things so I thought i'd ask about it. When she said 'morphine patch' and 'extremely painful' I told her to forget it.Chat Icon

And I bought him a catnip scratchy thing, but he's not interested.Chat Icon

Not for our crazy boy.
We got him and his sister at 9 weeks old and he was crazy- as was to be expected at that age.
The vet wanted to wait untiil they were like 4 months old I think before fixing them.
He came home from the surgery raring to go.
Crazier than ever.
I really feel the only thing that calmed him down was time.
once they hit a year old, they were much calmer.
They still have their moments...but nowhere near as crazy as before!

Sometimes it takes different types of scratchers. My cat likes the box ramp ones and his cat condo which has rope around it.

Did you take him to it and take is paw scratch the scratching pad?

Also you may need to have his nails trimmed
