Bringing a dog on the Airplane

AM I CRAZY? My family is going to Florida in APril to visit my parents. I really do not want to leave my dog behind. She is probably about 12 pounds or less. I want to bring her with me. She can fit in a carry on Chat Icon
We do have a connecting flight which sucks!!!

What would you do?

If you can bring him I would. When we go on away we dont have that option and always feel guilty leaving him behind.

Re: Bringing a dog on the Airplane

When we had an 8lb dog we flew with him. Just check the airline because not all airlines allow this, also go early because security may take a bit longer. We had no issues, our little guy slept the whole flight in his bag under the seat in front of us.

My aunt flies her 20lb dog to her Florida house a dozen times a year. Sadie love it, sleeps the whole time, fits right under my aunt's feet

Check with the airline, every airline has different restrictions/fees.

Also if this is the doggies first flight maybe look into getting a sedative to help them relax.

my friend flies from D.C to frt lauderdale with her westie for the holidays every year. He is around 17 lbs I would say. it's great that he doesn't miss out :)

MIL would also fly to portugal every year with her pomeranian when he was alive. now that's a long trip but he was fine too and fit under her seat.

Just make sure your carrier is airline approved.

Re: Bringing a dog on the Airplane

When I bought my dog I flew him home as a pup. There was also a stopover which was annoying but I had no choice. They only allow a certain amount of pets in the cabin on many flights so be sure to book it in advance. On the airline I flew (which slips my mind right now) it was $100 per way to have the pet on board. The pet needs to be in an airline approved bag. (Sherpa is a popular brand.) My boy is too big now but I would definitely choose to bring him in the cabin and travel with him if it were possible. Have fun!
