Question about reading level

My DS is in first grade and he is currently at reading level I. He is supposed to read books which are at his level but I have no idea what books are at this level. Is there a list somewhere or some way to discern what books are a level I? TIA.

Re: Question about reading level

You best answers should come from his teacher! Ours gave each kid a list of books appropriate for their level. Ask to have the same!

Re: Question about reading level

I is a tough level to have a list of books. Most authors write at a K and above level. Most of the books before K are books made specifically for reading at these levels.

For "I", you might find a "Fly Guy" or maybe a "Henry and Mudge" but not most in the series

The teacher should be helping by sending home books.

Thanks everyone. I will send the teacher an email and ask her for the list. I'll also check out those books and the websites. Chat Icon

I am an elementary teacher- If your LO is on level I- read I and read J books. Henry and Mudge are great and Young Cam Jansen (mystery) are interesting. Always read nonfiction!!!! Nonfiction should be on level H- it is harder to read. Scholastic catalogs have levels on it.

Re: Question about reading level

Im not sure which district you are in, but I walk into my library and tell them my son's reading level and they hand me a print out of all the books in the library that are on that level....
