Cleaning cat ear wax

We thought one of our cats had ear mites, so we took him to the vet. It turned out that he had too much wax in his ear.

Has anyone ever cleaned their cats ears? How do you do it? I know ears are so delicate. I'd like to learn though, as opposed to paying $100+ to have the vet clean them!

i use ear wipes and a q-tip. My cat is easy going and I hold him like a baby and clean his ears.
