Yes its possible, thats how i started back up again after the twins. There were probably 4 months or so I only did the treadmill with an occasional outdoor run or race. Cross training is good too though. have fun and good luck!

Thanks. I don't need to "get back" into, I just need to "get" in shape! It has been many years since I have formally exercised.
Will give it a try. Don't think I can run, will have to start with just walking.

You will make more progress if you incorporate some strength training. A pair of 3-5 pound dumb bells is all you need to get started.

I started with just walking, until my heartrate was between 130 and 170. Very slowly I increased speed and incline and eventually started jogging too. I also do strength exercises and lift hand weights, but that came later.
Good luck!

I would recommend adding in intervals of either hills and/or faster pace. You can start out just walking and possibly move up to slow jogging or running if you want.
Walking is great exercise, especially if you add in some hills for a little resistance. If you want to see changes in your body, you should try to add in some weight training - you can also use your own body weight for things like lunges, crunches, squats, push ups, etc.
Totally doable, the only hard part is actually doing it!

Agreed. Also, in the long term you need some strength for your muscle and bone support. It's very important! Building muscle will help you keep the calories burning when you are not excercising. Get a circuit or strength training video.

Yup! EVen if you do some body weight exercises---squats, pushups, tricep dips!
