Is your childs gym padded?
Im just wondering. A lot of schools are moving that way. I want to have my gym padded, like some are in my district. Just wondering if yours are? We have cement walls and IMO it is SO dangerous. I am always afraid to teach in there.

Re: Is your childs gym padded?
All of the gyms where I teach are padded. It's a lot safer I think.

Re: Is your childs gym padded?
All of the gyms that I've been to in my district are padded. At least most of the walls are. There are spots that aren't padded, like doors, or climbing panels, etc., but most of the gym has some type of padding.

I actually don't know?? I know the floors are wood.. but I don't think I have ever noticed the walls? I know YOU know because you teach/taught at our school but I don't know.
I DO know that it freaks me out that they have the rope climb and rope net so high... but the kids say there are lots of mats and thick pads underneath and nobody's cracked a skull yet so I guess it's fine!

Re: Is your childs gym padded?
When my sister was in 3rd grade she took a header into the wall and broke her arm.....years later I think they ended up getting padding.
In my gym in queens we do not have padding, I find myself moving floor mats around to put against the wall where I think there my be a greater chance for impact.

Yes your school is padded and we do use some THICK mats under the climbing rope and cargo net. I did have one child fall in 10 years and she knocked the wind out of herself but was fine otherwise. I on the other hand almost had a heart attack. Im not a fan of heights either. They start out real low and usually dont get to the top unless they EARN it by being safe, good behavior etc and not until they are in 4th or 5th.

The cargo net scares me more than the rope! I know Robbie's friend got his leg caught in the net and kind of got stuck hanging there. But they LOOOOOVED being the big kids who got to climb high!

Re: Is your childs gym padded?
I can't believe there are unpadded gyms! My elementary gym was padded in 1979!
