shelter island 10K?

Anyone ever do this race? I would like to do it this summer. The logistics of getting there and home seem tricky though. I would like the whole family to go but I'm not sure how that would all work out. Should we stay out there somewhere? if so, where?!

I have done it the past 2 years and it is a great run. I ususally drive and take my car over the ferry and go with a group of girls and what we do is spend the day either on the beach or just walking around shelter island. Then before the race we go to the school where it starts and change. After the race they let you use the showers if you like and then have a wonderful after party with food etc.

I LOVE this race! I have done it a handful of times and it's great and not hard to get to. We would drive and take the south ferry. We never had problems finding parking.

the race is like Cow Harbor, but FLAT. scenic, people all out cheering.

I also like that it has a late start.


We always left an hour or two after the race (after a massage and some food). There is a wait to get back on the ferry, but it was never that bad.

We have a house in shelter island and finally did it last year. Personally, I hate racing that late in the day but you can't beat the scenery!!!! Gorgeous, and lots of support. People offer you beer the entire time!!!

If anyone plans on doing it fm me.... You can hang out at my place!
