Re: thai food ?
OMG, love Thai food! Well, more specifically Pad Thai. It's a noodle dish that comes with veggies/chicken/beef/shrimp. The sauce is basically slightly sweet with peanuts. I also like peanut chicken.
As I undestand, Thai food is basically like a cross between Chinese and Indian. Some items can be really spicy.
If you're near Queens, I HIGHLY recommend Leng Thai in Astoria. The food is delicious, the restaurant is so pretty, and the prices are reasonable.

Re: thai food ?
Thai food is amazing. The major favors are sweet, sour, creamy, salt and spicy (heat!).
Really good Thai food is hard to find in NY outside of Queens. We love Ayada in Jackson Heights/Elmhurst. Best food outside of Bangkok in our experience.
Favorite dishes:
Pad Thai Goong (shrimp) Penang Duck Curry Larb Gai (VERY spicy chicken salad) Som Tum (Spicy green papaya salad) Cashew Nut stir fry with chicken (mildly spiced usually) Raw Shrimp with Chili (CRAZY hot!!)
I honestly believe you can't go wrong with anything you order. Be careful if you are not used to very spicy food. Thai spicy makes most spicy foods seem like child's play. Order medium heat and go from there. Have fun

I'm a big lover of massamam curry - it's curry with coconut milk with potatoes and peanuts. I'm obsessed!! I usually get it with chicken or shrimp.
DH loves pad thai. Basil beef is really yummy if you like spicy.

I love thai food. It has what I guess we can call typical asian influences as well as indian influences. Like you can get something in a brown asian sauce or something in curry. I find it overall to be lighter than chinese food. I love thai food!
If your ever in Long Beach, there is a small restaurant called Chaba. Their food is excellent.
