Puppy Behavior ?

My almost 7 month old puppy broke out of the gated area we had her in about a month ago. So we figured since she was miserable in there we'd give her a shot at freedom !

Just a few coats on the floor & some mail ripped up once in a while, but otherwise not bad this past month.......until yesterday

I came home to my living room curtains & one of my scrapbooks shredded AND pee on the floor !!

I'm so upset but I have no idea why she went nuts all of a sudden ?? So the gate is back up and she's so whiney but what else can I do !?!?

Re: Puppy Behavior ?

Was there any kind of change in the house or schedule.

I found that when we changed schedules Rocky would act up...His thing was to chew his beds. One week I went through 3 beds!!!!

Re: Puppy Behavior ?

All I can think of is more exercise. And I knoooooooooooooow... it gets to that point of "How much more can I do?" but that's the ONLY thing that I've found to work. Also, leaving plenty of hardy toys around (which are insanely expensive). Otherwise, it's just typical puppy behavior, especially for a big, working breed dog. My dogs were both like this until they were 2. Then, like someone flipped a light switch, they just stopped all the shenanigans and decided to be good dogs. It boggles my mind!

Re: Puppy Behavior ?

The only change was we had a dog walker come in at 10am then i'd come home at lunch at 1:30pm....so on the 12th we changed it to one visit a day at 12:30pm because she was over 6 months and we really couldn't afford the dog walker to begin with.

I forgot she destroyed her bed last week too ! We haven't been able to buy her a new one yet.

I can't wait !!! I always ask her when she'll be a good dog lol

I'm glad its not just me because I feel like we do a lot ! She gets two walks a day (3 on weekends), play time at lunch, play time at night which are usually chasing the ball in the yard, chasing DH around the house, etc. She has obedience class once a week & then we go to the dog park or have dogs come over to play.

This probably had a lot to do with it! You'll have to super puppy proof your place until she adjusts. We have to do a sweep of the whole apartment..we even put a long metal gate around the bed b/c our pupp would drag everything out from under there and chew it, including ski poles. now that she's 1.5 yrs old she's calming down, but they get bored! Get lots of durable toys without stuffing to keep her occupied. We have a deer antler (weird, but effective) that someone out east gave us and it keeps her chewing and busy for hours and is basically indestructible.

Otherwise sounds like typical puppy behavior!! GL!!

She has a moose antler that she loves !

The change was over a week ago so I thought it was fine by now Chat Icon

She's NOT happy about being back behind the gate....she's sooooo whiney when I get home. You'd think the living room & kitchen were disney land lol

Thanks !
