Gift For a 5 Year Old Boy?
DD has a birthday party for her friend who is turning 5. I know squat about boy's toys.
What is a good gift to get (spending about $20)?

I like getting science kits. My boys enjoy them.

I agree with the science kits. I actually find the best toys on on-line sites like FatBraintoys.com and a few others.
My DC's had their 5th birthday party last week.
My DS got the most excited about the
"Creepy Crawlers Bug Maker".
He also received some Hot Wheels sets but he hasn't looked at them since opening them not his thing

transformers
science kits
sports equipment (soccer balls, tennis racket, tball set)
super hero (my DS does not really care for that but it is popular)
