Nutritionist rec

Ok I know little about seeing a nutritionist but my DH and I decided to see one. I'll travel for a good one. My DH's only requirement is that they will allow him to eat red meat!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Basically, we don't want someone who is an extremist.. .and just open about eating everything in moderation but will give us healthy ideas.

TIA!! Chat Icon

Re: Nutritionist rec

I don't have anyone to recommend bc I've seen a few and they all say the same thing.

I pretty much can't eat anything I like.

I don't need to pay someone for that!

What I did take away from them (which I also learned by watching Dr. Oz) Low carb, no white flour, no sugar, no artificial sweetener, low sodium and lean meat.

Shop only the outer aisles of the supermarket.

I found this IMPOSSIBLE to LIVE by, but try to do it MOST of the time.

I hope you find one that you feel helps you.

Re: Nutritionist rec

Dr. Braverman recommended Vivian Delman (516) 932-7319 to me when I asked him for a nutritionist a few years ago, but I never called her. Then a few months ago, my therapist recommended---Vivian Delman!
And of course, I still haven't called her yet. Chat Icon
It's on my list...

Same here, they all tell you the low carb, no processed flours, low salt and lean meat.
I was always able to eat red meat in moderation and was told to get the leaner cuts.

Be careful with who you see as a "nutritionist". Anyone can technically call themselves one in NY. There are a lot of people who "practice" and have no formal education. As always I would recommend someone with credentials after their name definetly RD (Registered Dietitian-recognized nationally) or at the very least CDN (certified dietitian nutritionist -only recognized in NY). A well educated person practicing nutrition/counseling will not tell you that certain foods are off limits, and should be able to work with you.good luck!

I get it.

You have to lucky enough to find one that isn't just textbook. I just haven't found one.

The last one i went to swore up and down I needed to go low sodium. For x, y and Z reasons. Well, I did. And almost passed out! She KNEW I have low blood pressure most of the time and the low sodium was NOT good. She insisted anyway. Needless to say, I stopped seeing her
