Book recommendations for a 5 year old boy
Are there any short chapter books that you would recommend?
Is Flat Stanley or Captain Underpants age appropriate? This would be for me to read to my son. He is not yet an independent reader at age 4 3/4 but I can see that he is about to outgrow the shorter board books.
We received the entire collection of Dr. Seus books from our extremely generous neighbor whose children outgrew them.

The Henry & Mudge series. Frog and Toad. Also Magic TreeHouse books are a bit longer to read a chapter or two a night.
Captain Underpants seems like a waste of time to me. Flat Stanley are great. My son loved them.

Moongobble and Me - 5 series chapter books "This is the first book in the Moongobble and Me series. Edward, a young boy apprentices to a neophyte wizard, Moongobble. Moongobble has a habit of messing up his spells and turning things to cheese. The Moongobble series has all the elements of fantasy: knights, dragons, witches,... but none of the violence usually present: the dragon of doom turns out to be roughly a foot long. The writing is witty, but simple enough for a four year old to understand" daddyread.com

ITA with these suggestions.
We also love the scooby doo & you mystery books. They have clues and suspects and ds loves keeping his clues notebook and figuring out the mystery together. They are really cute
