Re: Insignia In Smithtown
I ordered the filet migon medium well and it was super dry. My friend ordered it well done and it was bloody, they mixed up all of our desserts, we all had to swap plates at the table. The coffee they served was cold and to top it all off we were in a private room and it was FREEZING in there, and the waiter told us he was "gauging"the temperature when we all complained that we were freezing. Basically he turned off the AC only if he got too cold.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience there. We actually had the complete opposite, great food, great service and we definitely plan on going back.

Been there 2X and was not impressed at all. They did a great job with the decor, but the food & service was far from giving a compliment to the place.

Re: Insignia In Smithtown
I've never been there but I do know that sometimes high end wait staff and certain chefs can be really.. I don't know the right word. They get snobby about food and 'ASSume' that if you are ordering a quality steak at any temp over medium rare than you don't 'know' better or aren't worth the effort. I don't agree with it, but I do know that it happens.
It's 100% wrong to treat ANY customer like that and I would probably not only never return, but also call the restaurant and let them know about the experience that you had.

Re: Insignia In Smithtown
This is my review from Yelp. We had a similar, horrible experience:
"My husband and I went to Insignia for dinner last night. I had heard mixed reviews of the place but a friend recommended the surf and turf special they have on Sunday's so we figured how could you mess up steak and lobster? Well we won't be returning. One of my pet peeves is having a reservation and still having to wait for your table. I have worked as both a hostess and a waitress and I understand a 5-10 minute wait, but we got there at 5:55 for a 6:00 reservation, and we weren't seated until 6:35. When we asked the host why we had to wait, instead of just saying I'm sorry we over booked, he actually argued with us. It was really unprofessional. The meal didn't get much better from there; the steak (which was cooked medium on the inside) was burned on the outside. The mashed potatos tasted like they were from a box and we didn't even finish our desserts because they were very bland. I will say the place is beautiful inside, but I felt like it was really pretentious for the sake of being pretentious and didn't live up to the hype. There are plenty of other resturants I'd rather spend my money in. "

I heard it is SOOOO over rated and over priced. Lots of people from my job have tried it and hated it.
Just another one of those- Look at me, I'm so trendy, places. I will NEVER go there.

I saw on public tv that their neighbors are getting annoyed with them. That they want to expand their parking lot or something like that. And the noise is unbearable from the parking attendants moving cars around, honking horns, music, etc. The neighbors were very upset with this establishment and never had any complaints when Boulder Creek was there. They also said something about the lights being so bright and that beign a disturbance (I guess in the back parking area).
I felt so bad for those who live behind that.

Re: Insignia In Smithtown
I live literally across the street from here in the gated community and I never really here anything but I do smell the food sometimes.
The traffic in and out of the place at night is the most annoying as drunk people in cars too big for them leaving the restaurant always try to run me off the road.
I just went there for my first time on Friday night and I thought it was good. We got a sushi appetizer and my husband and I split the porterhouse for two which was yum. It was over priced though and thankfully we werent paying...
When it first opened we were so excited to have such an awesome restaurant across the street until we stopped to look at the menu prices which is why we havent gone until now..
The highlight was that I got to walk home from there instead of waiting for valet!!

Re: Insignia In Smithtown
We went for our anniversary b/c we had a GC. I thought the service and food was good (we were there early on a Friday before it got packed) but I think the prices are high. We still have some money left over on the GC but I'm not sure I'm willing to go back lay out the rest.

Hit the nail on the head.
The place itself is very nice but nothing else impressed me.

Yep you are right about that. And what aggrevates me about that concept is that if I am paying $44 for an 8 oz filet mignon, I have the right to have done to it what I wish. If I tell you to throw that piece of meat on the floor and stamp on it and then serve it to me- on a bed of peanut butter- you had better do it- and with a smile. Because I am the customer. And I am paying OUTLANDISH prices for a piece of meat so I had better at least be treated right and have my wishes followed with no question!
