Would I be a horrible hostess if

I had friends over for a BBQ and mainly just had burgers and hot dogs and some salads?

I'm the mom of a toddler and I feel like I can never enjoy events - between caring for my DS and then having to worry about food, it's stressful and I don't get to chat much less relax and enjoy the company.

So, we invited a few of DH's friends and there will be about 7 adults and 2 kids (2 and 4) plus my DS who's 2.5.

But, now I'm having second thoughts about having such a simple menu, especially since these people aren't over often. It will be about 2PM-7/8ish. I feel like I should have more food. WWYD? What would you add but that's not so much work day of?

ETA: Thanks everyone for making me feel better about it. I definitely planned on having chips/dip, apps and dessert and ice-cream to, it was just the main meal part I was worried about.

I think its fine!

If you feel like you need to add something maybe do chicken kabobs. They are easy to assemble the night before and then just pop them on the grill.

Def a crockpot full of bbq pulled pork or chicken so they can make sandwiches. No fuss at all! Some semi homemade beans from a can with some extra brown sugar, mustard, ketchup, etc. Knishes! Wrap them in some foil and throw them on the grill. SO easy and delicious and not to common.

I don't see anything wrong with what you are serving. If you do feel like adding something, add something easy and maybe even something you can pick up at the store. There is no need to stress yourself over it.

When I go to a BBQ, I expect to see burgers/cheeseburgers, hot dogs and not much else! However, my friends and I always put out chips and dip to snack on for a couple of hours before we grill the food, so I'd plan on that too.

Same! I'd expect hot dogs, burgers/cheeseburgers, burger toppings (lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles) and MAYBE some chicken (but if you know everyone eats red meat, don't even bother). Add some sides like: green salad, coleslaw, macaroni or potato salad and you're good to go!

hamburgers and salads are fine. I would ask people to bring dessert though and if I were to add anything, I would add some appetizers. It can be easy though (like chips and dip). But a few choices to snack on once they get to your house and throughout the night.

Re: Would I be a horrible hostess if

we just had about 28 people over to our house for a bbq on saturday, and i bought WAY too much food

what i made though..hot dogs, hamburgers, homemade baked beans and then salad..i also had chips and dip

people brought: potato salad, pasta salad, cucumber salad, 7 layer dip, fruit kebobs, cookies, trifle

honestly we had a bunch of leftovers

so i really think hot dogs and hamburgers are fine Chat Icon

Maybe I'll have some chicken too, that I can prep before and DH can just grill. Probably corn, potato salad, etc. I like the idea of kebabs so I may do that with some beef.

Re: Would I be a horrible hostess if

I think it is perfectly fine to keep it simple. I just wouldn't call it a "BBQ" because then people expect different food.

That's exactly what I would expect at a BBQ.

Yup, I love cheeseburgers!!!

But you could even do a simple sausage and pepper. Just chop up a big green and red pepper and slice a few onions in half, with EVOO, S&P in foil.

I actually made this for dinner tonight for DH.

Chicken is really easy to add to hamburgers and hot dogs. Marinade them the day before and then just throw them on the grill first.
