Toddler Sleeping on the Floor

I know it shouldnt matter, but it is really bugging the hell out of me and it is causing his sleep to be disturbed because he is waking up in the middle of the night 7 times out of ten. For the past 4 months now, DS refuses to sleep in his bed. We go through our bedtime routine (books, songs) and when we leave his room and close the door, he immediately gets out of bed and lays in front of the door and sleeps there. I have really tried everything to get him to "like" his bed again. It was a convertible crib that we converted to a toddler bed and I spent a boat load of money on it otherwise I would try a car bed or something. I am considering converting it to a double but then I have to get a mattress, boxspring and will be even more annoyed if he doesnt sleep in it. Is it a phase? Is it his PDD-NOS diagnosis? Here's what I have tried:

A nightlight, a flashlight, a lantern (thinking it was a fear of the dark).
A reward chart (didnt work; cognitively I dont think he understands the concept)
A promise of a toy in the morning (again dont think he understands the whole "in the morning you will get something" concept
Telling him that his friends all sleep in big boy beds
Setting up a tent in the middle of his room with his pillow and blanket, telling him he can sleep there instead (he refused to even go into the tent)

He has no issue falling asleep (thankfully that issue has resolved itself). Anyone have any suggestions I havent tried? BTDTs?

P.S. He slept fine in it for 6 months...

Maybe it's a sensory issue? My daughter didn't sleep in her crib or on her crib mattress so we bought her a nice, soft twin size when she was around 2. It definitely helped since the crib mattress was so hard.
There was about a year when she would constantly come in our bed at night or sleep on the floor. I'm still not 100% percent what caused it but for her, "Tinkerbell" would leave her a gift under her pillow when she'd stay in her bed (trinkets from the dollar section at Target). Eventually, she just sort of grew out of that phase.

My DS slept on the floor at his bedroom door for probably almost a year. This was from about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2. He would not sleep in his bed.

Re: Toddler Sleeping on the Floor

DS went through a bad phase of not sleeping in his big boy bed. He first loved it then when he realized he can get out he got out every night. It was a fight to get him in so we had to stay in and oat his back to go to sleep. Another nightmare
Then he got hid 2 yr molars, but b.c of his expressive delay he just screamed in the middle of the night for months. Never could tell us what was wrong. I figured it out and after his first dentist appt it confirmed it.
Anyway, now he's 3 and finally goes to sleep pretty well on his own in his bed. Four out of five nights winds up on our floor but st least he starts in his bed. I don't want to make hid room or bed a punishment so I allow it for now

With that said... No advise. Another long phase. Sorry. Chat Icon
