Spinoff to kids sleeping on your bed, what are the downsides to letting your toddler sleep on the floor

My 3 yr .old prefers to take a pillow and blanket and his stuffed animal and CARS entourage and go to sleep on the floor near his toddler bed. He usually refuses to go to sleep in the bed but if we move him during the night, he does not complain. He may wake up long enough to make sure that his favorite toys are by him and then when he wakes up in the morning he does not care that we have moved him. Some nights he wants one of us to lay down with him on the floor until he falls asleep but some nights he does not need that. Do we need to even be moving him or will he outgrow this anyway? Should we insist that he goes to sleep in the bed even though this does not seem to be causing any other problems? He still naps most days and he will nap anywhere. We have been letting him fall asleep on the floor at night but are we supposed to insist that he doesn't?

The only time Kaydyn slept on the floor was right after she had a stomach virus and she had gotten sick in her bed numerous times. For about a week or 2 she wouldn't fall asleep in her bed.

She would fall asleep on the floor and we would go in there and move her to the bed. Sometimes she would climb back out or sleep half on/half off the bed, but usually she stayed put.

3 of my friend's kids all went through this same phase - at around the same age.

They slept perfectly soundly and through the night on the floor, and eventually grew out of it and went into their beds. -

They all seemed to believe it was a power thing - Like the kid has a choice where to sleep now b/c they're not confined to a crib - and they're choosing the floor ........KIWM?

haha Funny thing about this post is AJ just did this last night.

She always falls asleep in the livingroom on a makeshift type bed, then we move her into her toddler bed.

Well last night she was fine until her head reached her pillow. "No, No" and slid off half asleep to the floor. She cuddled with some pillows and dropped back to sleep. I tried twice more to move her but got the same result so I put another pillow on the other side. Covered her with a blanket and let her be. She was still there this morning pretty much in the same position I left her.

Whatever gets a good nights sleep in, right?
