Reply from me at bottom- Question About Getting a Credit Card
The only CC I have is a Target card. Yearssss ago I had CC's and they were dangerous for me and I paid them off. I pay everything now with cash or with my debit card.
However, I now would like to get a few CC's and not sure how I go about even getting them. Yes, I've gotten some offers here and there that I've thrown out, but can I just go into let's say my bank, or TFCU and apply for a card? I have very good credit, most recently over 800.
Thanks

Question About Getting a Credit Card
I would just start off with one. Maybe a Viisa or AMEX (which you pay off at the end of the month). Get one with a low interest rate and no annual fee. Just look for a good offer in the mail and call up to apply.

Re: Question About Getting a Credit Card
We have one through our credit union and the interest is pretty low. I would talk to someone at TFCU about applying for one.

Re: Question About Getting a Credit Card
You can apply online for a visa at TFCU.
However, for what purpose do you want a credit card? You have admitted that they are dangerous for you. Perhaps you should go with an AMEX where you have to pay the balance off every month?
Also, you should examine what your interests are. do you travel a lot? Perhaps you should get a CC that offers frequent flier miles? I have a Visa Amazon Credit Card that gets me points for purchases and a Visa Gap which gets me discounts and reward coupons. Many people I know, instead of using their debt, use their reward cards for everything and just pay the bill off every month. (But you need to be disciplined for that!).

Re: Question About Getting a Credit Card
If you plan on paying it monthly and not accumulating charges, you should look into cards that give you rewards. We have a Disney Visa and we are getting a reward card with close to $300 on it for our upcoming vacation. I've also recently started using an airlines miles card through Am Ex and I already got a free flight!

Question About Getting a Credit Card
Is there a specific reason you want a credit card? If it's to earn rewards I would look into one with really good rewards, I have a chase freedom card and I get cash back on everything I buy. But the key is try not to carry a balance, otherwise it pretty much negates any cash rewards you get. I have a few bills that get automatically charged to the card (car insurance, cable) just remember to pay it all off!!

Question About Getting a Credit Card
i agree with pp, what are you looking to do with your cc? if your looking to make every day purchases, you might want to look into a rewards card. My Amazon Chase card gives me rewards on all transactions. My Chase Freedom card actually gives me cash back, like real cash!

Re: Question About Getting a Credit Card
Thank you! I want one or two for emergency situations and such. Was just looking for where to go and apply for them since it's been a while. As for rewards, I rarely travel so it's neither here nor there with that type of cc. Again, thanks.

Re: Reply from me at bottom- Question About Getting a Credit Card
You can apply online for pretty much any cc. You can even compare them online and then choose!

This is what I would suggest- even if you're not seeking rewards something like an Amazon Visa might be good, because you can apply online I think. I sort of wish I'd gotten that one instead of the one I have because I buy a lot on that site.

i think as long as you choose either visa or MC, you only need 1 for emergency purposes since everyone takes visa and mastercard.
if you were to go for discover (i love their rewards program) or amex, i would then opt for another (Visa/MC) just in case of emergencies
hope this helps
