Re: Fmla
Depends on your district. In most places, FMLA holds your job and health insurance; it has nothing to do with when/how you get paid.
In NYC, the DOE will pay you for 6 weeks (or 8 for a c-section) from the baby's birth or until your sick days run out, whichever comes first. Once your six weeks are up, no more checks b/c you're no longer considered "sick."
The FMLA clock also starts ticking once baby is born. You'll be able to keep your insurance for 12 weeks from your last day of work. If you take some time off before the baby is born, that gets shaved off the end of your leave.
If you're an LI teacher or work in a private school, talk to your payroll secretary about how it works in your specific district. Each one is a little different, so LIF girls might not be able to answer you.
