Vascular Surgeon...

I'm having tons of "residual dvt pain" and feel like I should get back under a Vascular Surgeon for a good checkup -- Any recommendations?

Re: Vascular Surgeon...

Where do you live? My DH has a great one in Forest Hills, Queens...He's got DVT too, among other things. Let me know if you want his info.

How long has it been since diagnosis? It takes a while - 2 years later I still get twinges.

Re: Vascular Surgeon...

I saw a vascular surgeon only because the week of lovenox shots in my stomach left me with huge hematomas. Vascular surgeon said they will either go away or he can remove them. My PCP said they arent an issue and they can stay there. After 2 years they are still there, and I think surgery is unnecessary just for that so there they will stay forever.

I didn't like the surgeon at all - he was an azz - he was from Great South Bay Surgical Associates and Vascular Lab. I would never go back there again. He wanted me to come back 8 months later to measure them to see if they got smaller but after hearing from my PCP there is no medical reason to remove them I did not go back.

As for pain, I get twinges/tingles and I can just 'feel' the areas where my clots were (leg, arm, lung).

What treatment did your doctor have you on, that the vascular surgeon refuse to treat you? I'm really curious since the treatment is fairly standard!

Re: Vascular Surgeon...

Interesting.

From talking to other PE survivors it is usually 6 months - but maybe that is more of the PE angle over just a DVT.

I was actually on for 8 months, because I hit 6 months then my PCP wanted approval for me to stop taking from my hematologist and pulmonologist. With those doctors being so booked up it was actually 8 months for the last dose.

Either way - that doesnt sound like a vascular doctor you should see. Sorry I dont have any recommendations, since the one I saw was also a winner. Chat Icon

Feel better!

I highly recommend Dr. Giangola in New Hyde Park. He saved my father's life about three times. I cant praise him enough for his knowledge and care. He is the Chief Vascular Surgeon of LIJ hospitals. He is excellent!
