Figs - enlighten me.
I love figs, but I always buy things (restaurant/bakery) already made with figs...I've yet to venture into doing anything at all with them on my own.
Picked up a box of them last night at Trader Joe's. Going to use some in a salad later this week, I know that much...aside from that, I'm a little lost.
Anyone have tried-and-true fig recipes? TIA!

Figs - enlighten me.
Nothing tried and true, but serving with cheese is definitely a favorite for me. Also my sister used them on pizza with arugula and balsamic and it's delicious.

I love to eat figs raw just the way they are.
but I agree with the previous poster, that with cheese they are really good. I have layered cheese on crackers with fig slices as an appetizer.
I also love fig and brie cooked in a puff pastry. SOOOO GOOD!
also i have pureed and then heated the fresh figs to make a sauce (and depending on the dish- sometimes using some white wine or soy sauce or some other liquid) to make it more loose and put it over a vegetable stir-fry, or a spaghetti squash, or something like that. MMM its like a fresh, easy fig jam almost.
I have yet to try fig cookies, but the food network website has quite a few and I was thinking I might try one of those at some point.

Figs - enlighten me.
My friend has a fig recipe...it is AMAZING.
She halves the figs, stuffs with goat cheese, wraps in a slice of prosciutto, and drizzles with honey. Bake for about 10 mins at 400 degrees.
ETA: I think you might be a vegetarian. Sorry! But maybe it'll be good without the meat.

Re: Figs - enlighten me.
Just saw an idea for an easy healthy dessert that looks good (that serves 1, but could easily be doubled, etc). It's from the current issue of Good Housekeeping:
1. Melt 1 TB of finely chopped bittersweet chocolate; cool slightly;
2. Cut 2 fresh figs in half lengthwise (or keep whole) and dip in melted chocolate.
3. Set on a wax paper-lined plate. Sprinkle a pinch of coarse sea salt on the chocolate and refrigerate until set.
128 calories per serviing (2 figs)

Re: Figs - enlighten me.
I used to eat them right off the bushes in our backyard growing up....
(that's as far as my food prep skills go.... eating raw food off the bush.... )

well even with all these great ideas, what I've done so far is quarter them and eat them raw.

Martha Stewart has an amazing fig pinwheel cookie recipe that I make every Christmas. They're a little labor-intensive....but oh so worth it!!
