RE visit after miscarrage
I met with my RE yesterday about TTC. I had an ectopic pregnancy about a month and a half ago. I had the injection on 8/1/2012. My beta numbers are in the negative. My blood work said that I ovulated already and I should get my AF within a couple of weeks. I was very overwhelmed this visit. He told me that my chances of having another ectopic went up to 15-20%. He said that there could be some tube damage. I never knew ectopic meant that your tubes failed. I just thought it was bad luck. He thinks I should try the Clomid again and hope the odds are in my favor. He also said that if that doesn't work then I should go the IVF route. IVF would decrease my chances to 1%. I really don't want to have another ectopic. I'm hoping this Clomid round will work and that I don't have tube damage.

Re: RE visit after miscarrage
its obv your choice and im not a doctor, but i too didnt know ecptopic meant something failed, i just thought that is where the egg attached. i KNOW the last thing i ever wnat to go through is another MC but I would say do what feel normal to you.
1/4 ish pregnancies end in a MC... chemical or clinical, always has been the case, we just see it more now with early tests etc.
15-20% to me sounds like 1/4 chance....you have had your sad turn, why not assume the next will be good?
then again, if all you will do is worry the whole time, IVF may not be the worst option...
really i have given you nothing more than what you stated above, but i figured it would be nice to know someone was reading and thinking about ya

RE visit after miscarrage
Unless they located the ectopic in your tube and noticed any damage, i think its a huge stretch to say it was tubal failure... an ectopic is a pregnancy that not in your uterus, it could be anywhere... we are fairly certain mine was somewhere other than my tube, mostlikely in my lower abdomen... If he was so concerned he should have done the dye test to check your tubes... imo i would go with a different RE. Most ectopics are bad luck!

RE visit after miscarrage
would do you mean IVF would decrease your chances by 1%? It usually ups your chances dramatically more then IUIs

RE visit after miscarrage
Im very confused by your RE's response. It is my understanding that an eptopic pregnancy is when your embryo implants in your tube (although it can implant in the ovaries, abdomen and cervix but that is not common). In the several cases that I know of the women had to have surgery which removed thier tube thus decreasing thier chances of getting pregnant by 1/2. According to what I was told by friends who have experienced this it was "****** luck"...
since conception takes place in your fallopian tubes taking clomid will increase the amount of follicles you have which will increase your chances of having this again. I believe 1/10 will have a second epotpic in a natural conception...
Just bc you do IVF does not guarentee that the embryo will not move upward and implant into the tube or down by the cervix.
I would definitely have an HSG test if you didnt already and find out exactly whats going on with your body...(and Id do this before I tried again to concieve)
Im so sorry for your loss, I understand your pain :( Wishing you the best of luck in whatever path you take :)

Re: RE visit after miscarrage
yeah I had a HSG test. I'm no longer pregnant. i got my folic acid level today which were 19.5. i was worried because i read that the injection might lower your folic acid. i think my RE is being very caucious with me. i'm feeling more confident going the Clomid route again. I should get my AF within the week then I go back to my RE. can't wait to try again.
