labs 4 rescue

Does anyone foster with them? I just filled out an application and was wondering how long it takes.

Re: labs 4 rescue

I don't foster but I got my second Lab from them, and tell everyone about them!

That's really great of you to open your home to foster Labs! My Ginger's foster Mom was so helpful and really instrumental in us adopting our dog sight unseen. I remember there weren't many foster families out here, we had to drive to Connecticut to meet potential dogs.

Re: labs 4 rescue

I fostered a dog from them once and it was the WORST experience of my life. They told me the dog (3 yrs old, 100lbs)) was house trained and knew basic commands. Long story short, he WAS NOT house trained and didn't know ANY commands. I agreed to foster for a month but I only made it a week. Instead of being understanding they were angry with me. I physically could not care of this dog due to his size and personality so I had to crate him while inside. My own dog was very upset with him around as well.

Make sure you ask A LOT of questions prior to accepting to foster.

Re: labs 4 rescue

this guy needs an immediate foster/adopter. he is in a ny kill shelter-brooklyn center.
lab mix about 3 years old--what about helping him? let me know if you need further info.--time is ticking for him! he has only a few days :( or maybe just tonight :(
if interested you will have to fill out foster forms with rescues:

rebound hounds
ny second chance
zanis furry friends are the 3 i would apply to. apply to all 3 bc you don't know which one will be able to pull him-
this pup's name is JET- Animal ID # is A0946345

I'm sorry you weren't happy with your experience with them. I was under the impression that part of the responsibilities of fostering was to train them. The foster family that had our Ginger had to cart her back and forth to vet appointments for her heartworm treatments, spay, respiratory infection, housebreak, crate and leash trained her too. I thought that was one of the benefits for adopters, that the fosters prepare them to be a part of a family/home environment.

If they didn't share that with you, or have that in an agreement you signed, I could totally understand not being prepared for that. I have such admiration for foster families because they are rolling the dice with every dog that comes through their door, not knowing really what they're getting because they dogs (hopefully) go straight from a shelter to a foster home.

It's why we've never fostered, I already have 2 in a small home and know that we're not cut out for it so we support L4R in other ways. I hope your experience doesn't completely sour your opinion of them, they largely do the right thing by these dogs. Chat Icon
