Re: English Bulldog owners

The last Bulldog I had, had bad food allergies and it would cause his ears to be irritated and they would smell funny. It was such a pain to keep under control. My bully I have now has seasonal allergies and when the seasons change, he loses small patches of hair in a couple of spots. He also gets hot spots occasionally.

Unfortunately, it just all comes with the territory.Chat Icon

My bulldog has BAD food allergies too and has the same thing with the ears being irritated. We have tried everything! He is even on a special dog food that we have to get from the vet and is a lot of $ . We don't always give him people food but every once in a while we feel bad and might give him a little something. We really don't do that often...I just feel so bad for him. Did your vet have your bulldog on any meds?

No meds, just special food and treats. And, we had to be proactive in cleaning his ears daily.

Yes, our bully has extremely bad seasonal allergies. H has been on steroids from the vet in the past. Recently, he keeps getting bumps all over his body. The first time we took him to the vet, and it was an allergic reaction to something, they didn't know what. Spent a ton of $$$, but the vet said we could give him a benedryl next time if it happened again. It did happen and I just looked up the dosage for weight of dogs with benedryl online. Worked wonders! We found that he does better with lamb, rather than chicken/beef.

Yes, our bully has horrible allergies. She's on special food and shampoo that we get from the vet. We clean her ears every morning and my DH has to express her anal glands every week when he gives her a bath. We give her benadryl once a day also. So much work!
