DOE email on BlackBerry
I wanted to be able to put my DOE emails on my personal BlackBerry because I had my school emails on my phone when I was a leave replacement on Long Island. When I called the tech help desk, they said I needed to pay $78 for the license to do so, and I may need to pay my carrier an extra fee to connect to the enterprise server. That is so ridiculous. I have to PAY if I want to be more responsive to my school community and parents by having my emails on my phone. I'm thinking No thank you...I'll just have less stress by not having my school emails on my Berry.
Do you know of any teachers who pay the fee? My admin doesn't seem very email-heavy so I don't think it will be a big deal if I just check the email on my computer...

DOE email on BlackBerry
No, I never paid. I got it on my old BB and now my iPhone. I talked to my school's IT guy about the way of setting it up. Like the "Domain Name" and those things. I know we got an email a year or so back that due to the increase of the number of people adding emails on their smartphone it was causing stress on the servers so they were instituting the $78 fee for Enterprise servers on BB. No one I know pays it except admins who get it paid by the school anyway.
If it turns out to be impossible to set it up you may want to set up a gmail or yahoo account just to use for students/parents. And get that on your phone.

DOE email on BlackBerry
Thanks for your feedback. We have separate non-DOE email accounts through google but our principal told us we are not to use that one to communicate with parents for legal reasons as only DOE emails are protected by the DOE.
I'm just going to avoid having them on my phone. I check them on my computer enough...
