Share where you run and why?
Where do you run and what do you like about it? Or not like about it?
Today, I went back to my favorite place, Avalon park in Stony Brook. I lived in St. James for years before I found it, so I thought others might not know about it.
Here's a trail map: http://www.avalonparkandpreserve.org/pdf/AvalonPark-TopoMap_09.pdf
And their website: http://www.avalonparkandpreserve.org/index.html
I like it because it's hilly, lots of turns, has cool woods and sunny meadows, is quiet and secluded, and in the areas where I need to watch my footing, I tend clear my mind and not think about how heavy I'm breathing or feeling tired. Hence, I jog more than I walk.
The only thing I don't really like about it is I don't get cellphone reception there anymore. I don't have any music loaded on my phone so I'm listening to the birds instead, which isn't terrible. But I do like music to rev me up.

Re: Share where you run and why?
I run in my neighborhood. I prefer being close to home.
The streets are tree lined so there is plenty of shade, flat roads, and there are also tons of hills. There are days I just want to run hard on a flat surface, and days I want to work the hills. I like that I'm able to do either and can choose my path since its pretty much a self contained development. I change my route often so I don't get bored

Re: Share where you run and why?
I only took up running in July, but I like running at a local school track.
I like it because it's convenient for me and safe. I get the experience of running outside without having to worry about cars or potholes or obstacles that I might encounter in the street. And I like seeing other people at the track who are either walking or running... even though running is solitary, I think seeing others is motivating and makes it feel more social, if that makes sense!

Re: Share where you run and why?
I run in my neighborhood because if I do not like to have to drive anywhere to run. Most of the time I run on the local streets (I have loops for 2.5, 3.25, 4 and 5 miles), but for longer runs, I run to parks near my house where they have longer trails.

I have a mile loop I like around my house- I nromally do that 3 times
for longer run I will go to argyle lake park and run around the lake- I did that yesterday for a 5 mile run- but I have to cross main st/montaulk hwy- which is fine I just prefer not to sometimes

Re: Share where you run and why?
I usually run around my house. I have a ton of different loops from 1 mile to 9
I do have an 18 and 20 mile loop (for marathon training), but I have found that I prefer to do shorter loops so I can stash liquids at home and use the bathroom.
I live on top of a hill, which makes hill workouts super easy.
There are a few track workouts with different running clubs, but sometimes I don't want to wait until the 6:30 or later start, so I will do on my own at the HS or MS track.
I also try to meet up with people for longer runs. Caumsett, Sunken Meadow and Northport runs. Even Bethpage to change things up.

I run in Central Park. I live about 1 mile away so I run there and either do a 4, 5, 6 mile loop and run home again.

Re: Share where you run and why?
A bunch of places.
Sunken Meadow is my all time favorite. I've run all my long runs for marathon training there. 20 miles can get boring but when you have the choice of roads, trails, beach, boardwalk the change of scenery helps. Also bathrooms and water fountains are there.
I also run around my neighborhood a lot. I live in a fantastic neighborhood for running. Plenty of hills and the roads are wide and not trafficy. I have 2,3, and 6 mile loops I can combine for any distance. I can also run to a nature center and have access to trails (0.75 miles away from home) so I can finish a long neighborhood run off there.
Now I am an asst coach for a kids xc team, so I run a few times per week with them on fields and xc type courses. its nice for a change from road running. They do a lot of speed workouts which is new for me (to do on grass and hills vs track)
Like Erica I meet up with running club for track workouts and long runs occasionally, but mostly do my own thing since I have to go around my kids' schedules.

Share where you run and why?
Right now I am halted from running b/c I am almost 35 weeks pregnant but I have a 5 mile loop I do in wantagh that takes me thorugh a little path:) Also for long runs I like the Massapequa Preserve since it is close to my home. Belmont is another fav of mine b/c of the trails. Sunken Meadow I love but it's a bit of a distance so I don't go as often! I am actually itching to get back out there as I type this:)

We live very close to the Cape Cod Canal so I usually will run from bridge to beach or bridge to bridge and back. It's pretty flat with a few very gradual hills.

Re: Share where you run and why?
I live in the city, so typically run in Central Park when I need shade or want a super long run, or along the West Side Highway when I'm doing a shorter run, 6 miles or less.
My parents live in Massapequa, so when I'm out there, I love running the Massapequa preserve. It's a pretty nice trail that goes all the way from Merrick Road to Bethpage State Park.
Although, to be honest, I've stopped running since getting pregnant. Hoping to resume next year.

Re: Share where you run and why?
I'd love to try all different places, but right now time is what I have to work with so for the most part it's around the complex during lunch at work or just in my neighborhood on the weekends.
Why do I run - it started out for exercise to lose weight, but as time is going on I'm finding it VERY beneficial for my mind & spirit. It is my time alone, to think & to get those endorphin's pumping!
