GHI???
We are looking to switch from my DH's heath insurance where we pay $600 a month to GHI under me. I have a few questions...
Is it really free for the entire family? It would be him, me and our two children.
Do you have a optional rider? If so why?
Do you need referrals to see doctors? For example I have a neurologist. Would I need a referral to still see him?
How much did you pay out of pocket when you had a baby?
Do you have any issues at all with it? I am really nervous about switching but paying $$$$ if we can get it for free would be crazy.
Thanks!

GHI???
It's really free. I have two children also. No referrals needed. I didn't get an optional rider. When DD was born, I had a copay of $300 (I think). No issues that she was in the NICU for three days. I think it's very good insurance. I'd definitely save that $600 a month!

Re: GHI???
I had no real issues with GHI .. no referrals needed .. $15 copays for most doctor appts.. $20 for surgeons, if I remember correctly. It was free for me and my dh.
The ONLY problem I encountered is it's not as widely accepted by doctors. There were times I wanted to see some top people for various reasons (not fertility related) and wasn't able to because they didn't take my plan.

Re: GHI???
it's free!!!! myself, DH and our 2 kids are covered. plus, through the UFT, you get dental, vision and Rx for all..... paid for my your union dues. i have had no problems whatsoever with GHI. $15 co-pay for regular doctors, $20 for surgeons, no co-pay for children's well visits. We have the optional rider ---it's only $15 a month.... nothing. not sure what it does exactly, but i have heard it lowers your deductible wihch you only need if you see an out of network doctor. even then, they still cover part of it.
i have had no problems keeping the doctors i had before i had GHI or finding doctors that i like (i.e. my OB, the pediatrician for the kids, etc.) after i went on GHI.
ETA: $300.00 for labor and delivery and one $50.00 copay for first visit to OB. All other pre-natal visits after that there was no co-pay, which is awesome. Sonograms there is a $15.00 co-pay and a $15.00 for lab work (i.e. bloods sent to labs)

Re: GHI???
I recently switched to it. A couple of things are annoying. A lot of doctors do not accept it. My DS had to go to an ENT and all the Drs my pediatrician recommended, not one accepted GHI. I also had an annual checkup, and it was not covered. I have to fight that one, but someone I work with said they also wouldn't cover her annual check-up, so I guess I'll just have to pay for that. There's always something little that I have to pay that GHI didn't cover, ($ for a blood test, hearing test, etc. Not a ton of $, but it adds up.) I did not get the rider, but I think next year I will to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks! That is good to know. I think I am going to get the rider just in case. It is only $15 a month for the family.

I also had an annual checkup, and it was not covered.
While everything else is fine with GHI, they do not cover annual physicals from 19-45. Its nuts!!! I had to pay out of pocket for a physical one year, I was pizzzed.

Re: GHI???
I just switched to GHI also, because DH's company was bought out and the benefits would have been around 800 a month also.
I haven't used it yet, but I have heard great things.

I get an annual every year and just pay the co-pay...it is all how the dr bills the insurance.
