Eating own poop?

I leave a wee wee pad down from my two year old Matlese while at work (she's gated in the kitchen). Lately I've noticed there is poop on the pad; but crumbled up into pieces. On her walks; her bowl movements are always solid pieces; at least 2" in lenth.

I'm starting to think perhaps she is eating her poop during the day and that's why I'm finding it broken up? Last night I got home and saw throw up on the floor it was a yellow puddle and then what looked like brown mush in the middle. (Maybe she ate the poop then threw it up)?

I'm going to make an appointment for her to see the vet. Not sure if they can determine if she's in fact eating her poop; but the throwing up is concerning me too.

Any other suggestions?

I saw on "Its me or the dog" to feed them pineapple. It makes their poop unappetizing.

Google it and see what comes up.

Thanks! I did some searching on google and they said about sprinkling pumpkin powder; garlic; even accent on her food so it makes the poop nasty to eat. I didn't know of hte pineapple though.

Thanks!

Re: Eating own poop?

we have used the fig newton trick.. google this, pretty interesting and it worked!!

found some info for you..

Dosage

One Fig Newton type cookie per 25 pounds of dog.

Why it works

It was clear that something in the Fig Newton types treats makes the poop less appetizing. I looked into this a bit and it turns out that fig plants produce ficin, a protease enzyme that aids digestion by breaking down animo acids and works similarly to the enzymes in papayas (papain) and pineapple (bromelin). And yes, all three enzymes can be used as meat tenderizers. As it turns out, the item in the Fig Newtons that is at work is the figs themselves.

Interestingly, there are urban legends out there about feeding dogs pineapple to resolve this problem as well.

Re: Eating own poop?

I've used canned crushed pineapple for Rigel. I also used the DisTaste tables and powder from the Drs. Foster and Smith catalogue. Stick with the pineapple, it's more natural and it works like a charm for about 8 months at a clip. Two or maybe three times. I don't remember the last time I had to use anything and Rigel turned 7 in August.

Good luck!!
