Apple picking

Anyone been recently? My kids love going, but I heard that it wasn't going to be a great crop this year and I don't want to drive out east if it's not worth it. Last year was a bust since the hurricane knocked them all off the trees. We went to Lewin's and had to pick them out of big bins, we could have gone to the grocery store for that experience.

We went to Seven Ponds Orchards in Water Mill the other weekend, and my 3.5 year old had a great time. We picked the apples off the trees, and there were other things that we could pick (sunflowers, green beans, peppers, eggplants, fall raspberries, etc.).

In addition, there was a playground with a lot of slides, playhouses, etc., a corn maze, and hay/tractor rides (it was $7 per person for general admission to all activities).

There was no admission charge to the farm to just pick the apples and other stuff... you were only charged for what you picked.

But DS really enjoyed the atmosphere and the other things to do/play on.

Re: Apple picking

We went to Wickham. NEVER AGAIN.

We paid 20 dollars as a membership fee.. and then 30 dollars for a half bushel of apples.

There WERE a lot of apples and some peaches too. And we ate a LOT in the orchard.. but still.. 50 bucks for apples? It's crazy.

Next time I'm going upstate.

Thanks all! We ended up going to Lewin's in Calverton yesterday. They had mostly red & golden delicious left. $1.25 a pound.

We did Wickam's one year, and it was cute, and the hayride is nice but the next year they started the membership fee and we started going to Lewin's.
