Re: adult psychologist/psychiatrist recommendation

I just want you to know that the two doctors, psychologist and psychiatrist are very different. The psychiatrist prescribes medicine while the psychologist will explore your fears, and disorders and then make the referral to the psychiatrist for medicine, if needed. Knowing this might help you determine what kind of dr you might want to see.

If you are more interested in exploring your disorder, social workers can help with that as well.

I wish you the best!

Thanks. In the city I saw a psychiatrist and felt she was just giving me meds. At this point, I am open to either one but prefer a female and hopefully one that takes Oxford.

Yes, a psychiatrist would just give meds after knowing about your diagnosis. If you are looking to speak more about your disorder, then search for psychologists and/or social workeres. If medicine is needed to control your attacks, then there will be a referral for that.

I would like to suggest googling what you are looking for and calling the offices up. Ask for a consultation. Ask about expertise, how long that the therapist has been trained in panic/anxiety disorders. You, as the patient have the right to know who your therapist is and what you feel comfortable with.

Unfortunately, I do not know of any therapists. If I come across any, I will let you know.

Thank you for all your great advice and help. I really appreciate it and would love a personal recommendation. I googled but there are just so many my heading was spinning. Thanks again.
