Sensory Overload

DS is almost 3 and has a SPD. He gets into a sensory overload and I have the hardest time getting him out of it.. I have to drag him out of the situation kicking and screaming... I feel so bad... How can I get him to calm down a bit before he totally loses it?

Re: Sensory Overload

DS doesn't have SPD, but he does have sensory issues and is hypersensitive.
Something similiar happened a few weeks ago at a friends. Too much going on. The dark was barking, the father was yelling, older kids screaming (about 5) and then they thought some toys would occupy him so gave him a singing big bird. Yeah... Not a good idea. It was too much that he was yelling "Home!"
I think when we got out of the situation and started walking home he calmed a drop, but what really got him out of it was stopping at my parents where he's comfy and it's like his second home. My niece his age was there. They're best buds. I know it's a diffent situation, but a good distraction of something he's comfy with.
All else fails...his fav tv show.

Re: Sensory Overload

Distraction is the only thing that works for my guy. Favorite toy, song, show-etc., it seems to help but of course not a cureChat Icon
