Newsday strikes again
Here's the headline:
How LI teachers benefit from unusual raise system
And there's a photo of a yoga class to go along with it. No indication that anyone in the photo is actually a teacher, of course. Just an assumption that some might be and might be getting credits for it.
Journalism at its finest. 
So. Infuriating. Like we don't get bashed enough.

Newsday strikes again
I saw the article, disgusting. It's so far from truth and reality. They might as well have had a picture of a bunch of people sitting on a beach sipping drinks out of straws in coconuts, because that's what we do from 3pm on. Am I right?
Way to report news that was marginally true in 1997, Newsday. Brilliant.

"Newsday observed classes where teachers colored with crayons, made flip books out of construction paper.." Yeah a**hole, maybe those teachers taught K-2 and were making a sample for their class. They could have been working on it for 10 minutes and they want it to look like they spent the entire class coloring. I do think it's a good idea to limit the number of classes a teacher can take. Some of my colleagues were breezing through them and the district just can't afford the raises.

I think it is interesting that last night the article was featured at the top of the webpage, and today you have to scroll down to find it (433 cooments later, many saying they will be canceling their subscription).

How many teachers can take BS classes for raises? We have to take graduate level courses.

for each 15 credit lane change, we must have at least 9 grad credits plus 6 inservice credits. however they each must be pre approved and can (and in some cases have been) denied. we can only lane change (+15) once per year.
i know there is at least one district (a coworkers wife works in) that you can take all inservice for lane changes.

And that is the reason I refuse to purchase Newsday. And it's also the reason I LOVE when they call to ask me to subscribe to their paper....so I can tell them exactly what I think about it.
