Why is it that you find out who your REAL friends and family are when a tragedy strikes??
my DH and i were talking about this tonight.
as most of you may know, my husband is going through the fight of his life from a brain tumor that was removed in may. since then, certain friends and family members haven't been calling, emailing, nothing! they were all there before this tragedy and now they disappeared! hello, it's not like he broke a leg, this is serious! he said now he knows who really cares and who doesn't. he is a little upset but i told him to forget it. why do people do this? ok, vent over!

It sucks! I have a few friends who have been through some major life changes, and they have all said they realize who their true friends are when those horrible things happen

a similar thing happened when my Mom got sick- people react funny to this stuff
it really hurt my Mom alot
you can't catch cancer!

sorry to upset you beth, the same thing happened when my mom was sick
it's not your fault- I feel for you guys also
I had a bad day- this just brought back some old feelings

it's so true, they say you know who your true friends are when they are with you not in good times but in the worst times of your life.

Sometimes people just don't know what to say or how to act. They would rather just back away from a situation. They don't understand that this behavior is very hurtful. It doesn't excuse them; it may just be an explanation for why they do it.

Not trying to make excuses for people. But honestly, sometimes when something bad happens to someone you love you don't know how to deal with it, how to be there for them. It stinks and is no excuse, but unfortunately some people just can not deal with the whole situation in general and try to block it out.It doesn't mean they don't think about you guys or love you any less, they just don't know how to or what they can do to help. Many prayers for your DH and you!!!!

I am so sorry to hear that the most important people are not being available when you need them the most. I really think people are just afraid to say or do the wrong thing so they just do nothing. It doesn't make it feel any better though

The same thing happened when DH was diagnosed. It became really apparent who were true friends and who was not.

Alot of people can't deal with this kind of stuff.When my best friend needed her heart transplant and unforntunately didn't make it, in the end I was about the only one left that supported her I pray your DH gets well

i know this feeling all to well i have found out that friends have backed off alot in my time of need. some i understand becasue it is very hard for them too, but the ones i need so badly to be here for support and when i need a break or a shoulder to cry on they come up with every excues in the book. but when they need something and i say no they get mad at me. i understand everyone is differant in a grieving process but i too need the support. i hope this is coming out right. i truly hope things get better and if you need to talk at all i am here

I think some people don't know how to react.
When my grandmother was in the hospital for over a month my brother and sister and I were the only grandchildren out of 13 to go see her. Only 3 live out of state.
It made me so mad that noone else was there to support her.
Now you and DH will have to use the strength of the people that REALLY matter in your life. And when he beats it, he'll know who to spend his time with, and who not to waste his time with.

DH has a good friend who survived cancer. He's now about 7-8 years in remission and still so hurt over the people who neglected to even call. I don't know why people don't call.

The same thing happened to me when my son passed away. Several of my friends disappeared. It was a horrible thing and made me really re-think who my friends are. I'm sorry you and your
husband are going through this. The last thing he should have to think about is who his friends really are. Lots of and for you and your husband.
