Make up school days?
Anyone know if we will be required to make up this week of school some of our children have missed?
Someone said there was some sort of a waiver that might be granted??
But I've heard that some schools that were closed for election day next week now have school.

Re: Make up school days?
In one of the messages we got from our superintendent she said that if the schools get power and are open next week the kids will have to go on election day (was a professional development prior to this).
She didn't say anything else yet about making up time, but I'd guess that we will lose the Feb break, and then if we have a bad winter with a bunch of snow days we might lose Easter break as well.

Re: Make up school days?
The schools are going to go to Albany to ask for these days to not count in the 180 days they need for the year. It will be considered a disaster.

Make up school days?
Riverhead district will hold classes on Tuesday 11/6 to make up storm days. Tuesday was originally no school.

Re: Make up school days?
My kids only missed 3 days this week, since they were off for the Holy Day on Thursday and teachers conferences on Friday. And they are already scheduled to have school on Election Day since their school is not used for polling. I am not sure how their school will handle the 3 missed days... Last time they tried to make a school day on a previously "off" day, parents went nuts! No one wants to give up a day or two of Winter Recess or Spring Break, however, I would rather that than have the kids in school until the 4th of July!!

Make up school days?
Our school has three days built in to the end of the year that they will go to school if "snow" days are used (and if not, they are done for the year one, two or three days earlier). As PP said, my DS was already off Thurs and Fri anyway so it looks like we are using those three days so far. Don't know what they will do if they have to use snow days during the winter.

Re: Make up school days?
Our district called a little while ago and said they will be applying for a waiver to the state to have the days exempt from making up, like the upstate folks did last year.

Our district says if we are open parent teacher conferences will be cancelled and the kids will have school Tuesday- if we are open.

Re: Make up school days?
I've heard that the state can grant a waiver for disasters, and that the days will not need to be made up. My kids are still not back to school. So this is 7 days so far they're out. All the meteorologists are calling for a bad winter, so they're not ready to tap into the allotted "snow" days yet...I believe all the schools that were closed due to the hurricane will be using the waiver.

Re: Make up school days?
I feel bad for the older elementary kids who have to take all those tests at the end of the year. A few older siblings of my kids friends were stressed out about them last year, trying to cram in all this work without extra days (since they need it for the tests regardless) is going to be miserable for them.
